Awesome team and same in Toronto as someone else mentioned. I'm don't think either of them would trade places with us; but we can look forward to better days ahead... hopefully!

And peppered the Caps with shot attempts throughout the series.

The entire team is set up to provide a ton of shot attempts from everywhere and control the puck through the neutral zone.

The guy who runs the analytics department is likely in line to be the next GM, and is their VP of Strategy, working directly with the coach to assess players and develop how the team plays.

When Dundon took over he stressed that everything had to be proven and justified on paper.

There isn't a single decision that gets made in the entire organization without being able to prove ON PAPER that it's going to work, and that extends from marketing to the front office to the coaches.

It’s funny...the best tippers are usually the older people with fixed incomes and the millennial smug jerkoffs give nothing. And they’re usually well off. It’s just how the times are now I guess. I’ll help out those older people with anything, I take out the garbage for this one old lady and she’ll give me $50 at Christmas usually.

I worked in a restaurant on the eastern end of Long Island for about 8 years. I saw the full gamut of society pretty much. There were good tippers from all classes of people. Some of the people that were loaded were the whiniest most self entitled people and extremely stingy. Most of them were older. Most consistent tippers were the middle class people.

I think the Stars have better top end talent with Benn and Seguin, but I'm surprised anyone would think they have a deeper set of forwards than the Blues.

Blues had 10 forwards score 10 or more goals. Stars had 4. That's a huge differential.

Beyond line 1, the Blues should have the edge on forward.

Defense is a total toss up. Klingberg is the best offensive defeseman (although Pietrangelo only had 3 less points), but overall I think the groups are even.

Goaltending is an edge towards Dallas, although Binnington has shown unbelievable play as well.

Honestly, I think a guy like that needs a balance on the "old hockey guy side". I've seen front offices that are 100% analytics driven and to me it doesn't seem to work in much the same way old hockey guy front offices don't tend to work. I think it works in Carolina, because you have enough guys that know the inner workings of the game outside the stats to prove a yin to the yang so to speak. I want an analytics guy to be over Gorton so we stop acquiring Mcleods and actually get people based on some semblance of data. Analytical type data is definitley the future, I just don't think your department can use it 100% of the time on decisions.

as much as I mock it, I think overall team analytics is certainly not something to just dismiss

I just completely dismiss individual advanced stats when comparing two players with those charts

it's ridiculous, no two guys are utilized the same way, no two guys play through the same injuries against the same players, etc

it's better for your team to have the puck then not have it, I'll concede that

I agree with you. I think where it is useful is comparing what seem to be two very similar players. It should be used as a supplemental tool, not the tool

Becuase the Avs also out shot the Flames, by a nice margin. Wasn't just Giordano.

Oh for sure.

It's fantastic, but there does need to be a level of context as well. It's gotta work in conjunction with traditional management styles, not against it. When the two clash, you have to be able to figure out why.

but, in the regular season you'd agree that the Flames were a better advanced stat team than Colorado right?

so I get back to my original point, REGULAR SEASON corsi means poop in the playoffs

The Avs domianted the puk. Idk what to tell you. At 5 on 5 the Flames were -48 in terms of shot attempts.
