Waived obviously. 60+ Point wingers grow on trees...
- Archaic

remember when Kessel was a 40 goal scorer... who never scored 40 goals?

so is Nylander a 60+ point winger when he gets like 30 points ?

inquiring minds want to know?

Good point. I assume no one would claim him, so he'd be on the Marlies at that point in time.

so... its should be pretty obvious that you don't keep Nylander if it means not being able to keep Kapanen and Johnsson
- BorjeFan4Ever

I would agree it's pretty obvious to keep Johnsson and Kapanen.
Even if you (Kyle D) thinks Nylander is better than Johnsson and Kapanen combined (I could even go with that, different views on what Nylander is/can be).
From team management perspective though, it's hard to make a point of keeping a guy that held out for several months and then had one of the worst seasons of all Toronto players in last 5 years, by rewarding him to keep him over 2 players that did really improve quite a lot his year and contributed to the team's successes (wins in regular season) this season.

Sorry, i was referring to the jays prospects
- Fakepartofme

Umm, in relation to the Leafs tho, right? You were talking about AA, then said something about Dubas not doing that. I pointed out he can’t really because they don’t have many desirable prospects.

Not that it would ever happen but wonder if you put aside their names and just focus on their playing ability, would this trade make sense?

I'm going to compare Nylander to Jason Blake ... in terms of contract and subsequent impact.

Leafs signed Blake after a great statistical season, where he benefited from playing with some high end players... showed up in Toronto, and sucked the life out of the roster. Momentum killer... with those weak ass shots into the goalies crest.

I saw Nylander do exactly the same thing this past season - on top of showing up out of shape (which is UNFORGIVABLE from point of view).. .the guy couldn't even take a 25 second shift without appearing like a 40+ year old

for all the criticism on Lou/Babcock and the 'Dubas is the bestest GM in the history of NHL' talk -

Rielly
Kadri
Andersen

were all signed to really favorable contracts for what they bring to Leafs.

you could argue that
Nylander
Matthews
Tavares
Marner (expect his contract to be 10-11million AAV)

are all overpayments.
Tavares you can understand.
But the other three were just because of not giving a bit more a bit earlier - last year people were laughing at the notion of Marner's contract being over 8million AAV.

Yes, Lou gave contracts to Martin, Komarov, Zaitsev as well.
But at least he got some good contracts done - can't say that to be true of Dubas.

everyone's down on Kadri right now... if I was in a management position AND was down on him (which I'm personally not)... I would not trade him Ottawa, he's been threw too much in Toronto and has been a very large contributer to the revival of the franchise.

send him to Ottawa - that would not be right.

plus Dubas doesn't really have the luxury of losing that contract - there are others which he needs to move.

27 points in 54 games. If he was at that pace over a full season that would have been 41 points. Admittedly a down year for him..

It was one bad year.. I think he'll be back to where he can be next season..

Let's not forget the 2 seasons before this one.

let's not forget that even with those 2 61point seasons, quite a few people commented already on how he was a floater and not such a great player..

nylander fans keep on speaking of him as if he was in the marner-matthews-tavares tier... he's absolutely not. he is a complementary player with a doubtful attitude, and clear flaws to his game - a very non-complete player.

what does he do well:
- PP
- transition from mid-ice to offensive zone
- breakout assists (the ones that are kind of straightforward where not a lot of vision is needed) and passing in general

He's not Matthews-Marner-Tavares, his contract is no where near their contracts.

Nylander is a skilled winger, he's better than Eberle and yes, Drouin too.

if Marner is paid 11, all 3 of them will be paid 60% higher than Nylander

does that seem about right?

he shouldnt be compared to those players, but to rielly, kadri, andersen.
so he's definitely overpaid.

that's a horrible way of looking at it...

consider this Rielly makes 5... Nylander make 7 Andersen make 5....

which one looks out of place?

and that is being HUGELY complimentary to Nylander - he doesn't and never has contributed anything close to what Rielly and Andersen do.
