I know it's only one period of one game, but I don't see anybody ready for the show next year. Announcers keep blabbing about the strongest PP in the tournament, but zero for five doesn't say much. Of all the players I saw in the first period I'd have to agree with Elbows, Turcotte seems like the most ready. Podzolkin looks strong, but he's not going to bull NHL D men around like these juniors.

Good joke but not true. Sorry.
- MjulQvist

I wasn't joking. I know the hawks wanted him but there were some behind the scenes pressures and they wound up not having him. It wouldn't be the first time there was some backroom discussions and it certainly wasn't the last.

Believe it or not, the media is fed a story now and then that might not be the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

As I said in my previous post, Caufield and Turcotte have been great for the Americans. Night has been impressive too, I can see why he’s a highly rated goalie. The defenseman York has been good too.

Pod has been ok. Certainly not bad but not too 3 material (yes, it’s a very small sample size).

That one you have to run by wiz, he's got that stuff pegged down to a T.
- wonthecup10

That first one is dead, Wiz has the draft order wrong, I corrected the 2nd one after. Probably should have just deleted the first one.

Except for him not knowing the Sabres no longer have the 20th pick.
- Elbows15

And the Kings evidently have the 23rd not the 28th.

With the 3rd, assuming Kakko isn't taken within the first 2 picks, I'm leaning more towards Turcotte than Cozens. I actually like Krebs and his all-around game so he could be a sleeper but not sure at this point if I'd spend the 3rd on him. Yes, if the Hawks somehow got a pick in the 5-10 range.

If the Hawks somehow got a pick in the early teens (along with #3), go with Krebs (if not picked yet) or Boldy who is really solid defensively. I believe he's the one who has been considered Hossa like with his strong backchecking to pair with his offensive skills.

Then if the Hawks somehow got a late teens pick instead, then my preferences are either Newhook or Zegras. Both are good 200-foot players with speed and motors.

York would be worth a look. He sounds a bit like Keith, tbh.

OKAY, time for a little blaspheming crazy talk ... what if ...

What if Kelly and the big shooter talent evaluators determine Cole Caufield is as good as DeBrincat and what if they find a team that has a d-man they would be willing to part with for our diminutive 40+ goal scorer, and what if that team has 2 d-men we would like to acquire and would like Gustafsson in return, with the Hawks adding whatever else is needed.

Draft Cole Caufield #3.

To EDM: DeBrincat, Gustafsson, whatever else is needed (Mitchell? and/or Kahun? and/or picks?)
To CHI: Nurse, Klefbom

I still don't see Stan splitting up the Strome / Debrincat duo.

... but if we re-united the Eerie line by getting McDavid... somehow...

Why would Edmonton trade away defensemen, especially their most promising, when defense is just as weak as Chicago's?

Well ... I did say "crazy" ... and on that note I'll add a little tinfoil hat subterfuge ... what if there is some truth to the rumblings that McDavid is unhappy with his lot in life and actually thinking about airing his grievances and what if acquiring his old goal scoring buddy would help to soothe his savage beast? Huh ... what about that?

I totally agree. Not having watched the games, but just looking a the statistics, it seems that Krebs might be moving up to the 5-8 range. I still really like Turcotte or Cozens, but there might not be too much separating the #3-#10 pick, at least in terms of potential. The Hawks have options, for sure.

Details probably need more fleshing out on any/all trades. But, a little blaspheming crazy talk is more than warranted. Coronating anyone this early on, is the true crazy talk.

No way do you trade Debrincat under any circumstance. He's a 30 to 40 goal scorer for the next 10 years.

He's a regular season phenom, no doubt about it. I don't relish the idea of trading him. That said, I'd listen to any/all offers. Maybe after the huge transaction you'd see things in a new light. Again, not actively seeking to trade him, but I'd actively listen.

It's fun to be able to spitball here. I wouldn't lose any sleep over the Cat being traded. McD probably has an order already placed for a million Cat sweaters. Lol. It does half irk me to consider not ever considering the Hawks involved in an intriguing blockbuster deal. The only Hawk I would never consider trading is Kane. As for the rest? I'd gladly be willing to sit down and chat. But, that's just my worthless opinion.

Wonder if the Q factor in Florida would tempt Dale to try and obtain 2 or 7. I could them waiving to go play for Q again.

The last time 2 and 7 played for Q, they were near the bottom of the league. Why is this thought even mentioned?

2 would be welcomed by Q, but who really knows? 2 remains very serviceable for the next 2-3 years. Think for Florida, he'd be a good addition. One big glitch may be Keith's son who lives in the northwest, adding distance. I'd be unhappy to see him go, but maybe he'd enjoy a change of scenery. If so, and the return was good, pull the cursed trigger. Living in the past is growing stale. Perhaps long past time, to create something new.

If we can fix the PK and tighten up defensively, this is a playoff team. That and we need a healthy CC.
- z1990z

That is an extremely large if.

Cuz Q's history suggests he's kinda OCD about having old seasoned D-men on his team. Maybe he's changed on his views. In Chicago, some of his D-men squeaked.
