Crazy he wasn't picked sooner.
Remember how we all look back in drafts and say why didnt we get him when he was available and cry, well, I think this is that one time where we are that other team picking a gem. |

Jeff Skinner maybe? - devilspep
Ya. He had a pretty weak second half of the season, and may be commanding north of 7M. I am fine with overpaying a guy if it is just for a year or two.
Looking at RFA's, maybe a guy Jakub Vrana would be available in the 4M AAV range. The 23 year old has wheels, put up 24 goals, 23 assists this year in a limited role. I would be just fine with Skinner tho, on a two year deal. |

Severson is 5 years younger and got more points this season. Why does NJ need to get older on D? Yet, Subban isn't even that much more defensively responsible... though he is admittedly a lot more of an on-ice/off-ice presence.
If any move would be made for Subban, it would definitely be after free agency, but even then, I'm tentative. NJ needs a true #1 and Subban I never saw as more than a 3-4 guy, and extremely overpaid at that. - archromat
Subban is only allowed over here if cap goes the other way. Vats, a 2nd rd pick, and Greene for Subban.
Butcher Subban
Smith Severson
Davies Carrick
I'd be fine with that. But NO way we give up cheap NHL talents like Smith, Davies, Severson, or a 1st. Subban is good, but that 9M cap hit seriously hurts his value. |

That's fair. As good as he is, and he thrives with rushing Center's like Hughes, he has been a band-aid. Only suggested it because I feel he could be attainable for a favorable contract. I was thinking something like 3 years at 5M aav. That would be an easy contract for the Devs.
I really like Coleman, but his numbers aren't indicative of a 2LW. He is a fantastic power forward, and would compliment a strong 3rd line nicely with Zajac and Eb's.
Who do you feel would be a good LW for Hughes? Obviously Panarin would be fantastic, but that just isn't going to happen. - bikeguy99
He might be good in the 40 of 50 games he plays with Hughes. Won’t look good on the IR. |

Without going the trade route I really don’t think there’s an LW I want too much
Try zacha there, give him a shot on the 2nd line for some time and if it doesn’t work out we’ll know he’s destined for 3rd/4th line and pk duty. |

I think Zacha on Hughes wing could work. Hughes can do his magic while Zacha finds an opening for his nice shot? Bratt on the other wing, two speedsters and Zacha... |

Zacha has a pretty good shot but is slower than Bratt and Hughes, their speed will open up spots. |

his agent said that he would only return to the NHL to play in detroit. and I don't think with his injuries that he is a good signing. |

Hes prob 40, but can still play. I just thought it be cool watching him and Nico and hughes stick handle through everyone. |

If Lou Lams was still the man in charge, we'd be the first team calling for his services lol. No way Shero does though. |

Subban is a good player but taking on albatross contracts where you had to trade a lot of assets away to get them doesn't seem great even though it would be an upgrade. |

Pass. Keep Vatanen, draft a dman with our 2nd round pick (there's quite a few projected for late 1st/early 2nd round) and focus on getting a left shot Dman to take minutes from Greene. |

I think Edler would be a decent pick up in free agency this off season. IF he'd be willing to take a 2 year contract. Nothing more, nothing less. |

Zacha did elevate his game down the stretch. But I have to say no on the LW. He is one of our few Righ shooters, and we are far weaker on the RW, so that may be his calling given our log-jam down the middle. |
