Chevy in Winnipeg has anything but a happy trigger finger. He’s a patient guy and needs to figure out this Trouba situation first and foremost. Nashville needs a net front guy for their PP so Hornqvist is absolutely a fit there but Kessel could also spark their PP. I wouldn’t put Tampa on that list as they have other priorities as well. Tampa and TO will be for sure dealing some players and if they deal talented ones (hello JT Miller) they’ll be getting picks and young, cost controlled players coming back

There will be a market for Hornqvist, no doubt. That’s certainly not what I was saying. What I was saying is that the trade market probably won’t heat up until we’re already into free agency. There are just too many impactful free agents that you can’t get without giving up any assets. These free agents are also coming off consistency for some of them where Hornqvist definitely has an inconsistent/down year by his standards

I know we all want Zucc but I think Dallas retains him for 4-5 years and I think they bring in Hayes as well. I think they give Hays $6MM for 5 years and Zucc maybe $5.75 for 4 years. Changes everything for that team

When a team faceplants like TO and Tampa did this year while having an abundance of talent, they'll start looking for "somebody that knows how win or has been there before". It's NHL GMing 101. They all believe in the grit guy or glue guy. Hornqvist might not be the guy, but I think they'll add somebody like him.

JT Miller is exactly the player I'd like to steal from them.

By the way, I think Hornie will rebound next year. I didn't see a ton change in his game. I think his usage changed and the Pens weren't shooting like they used to. Gotta put the puck on net for Hornie to be effective.

NYR and TBL fans would tell you “he’s streaky and inconsistent and disappears for long stretches.” I think he would be a great compliment to Geno. He’s not going to come cheap. Toronto isn’t going to have the cap space for Hornqvist and neither will Tampa.

Everyone harps on Toronto and their lack of cap space but it was all brought on by signing JT. They’ll gladly take that “problem.” TBL is similar when they fleeced NYR and then extended Miller and McDonagh. Any team trying to get Miller or Gourde or Hyman, Erne, Paquette, Point, etc.. they’re all going to be bidding against teams like NJD, Buffalo, Vancouver, Detroit, Montreal, and Ottawa who are going to be extremely willing to take on one year of Callahan for 3-10 years or whatever from a star player. NJD and Ottawa are similar to WPG, they aren’t a draw for free agents. If Tampa moves Callahan and Miller to NJD for Blake Coleman along with some picks and prospects they’re going to be all for it. That clears up $9MM in cap space.

WPG will be in a tight spot if Trouba wants out. The entire fan base wants Myers gone. They would need a second pairing defender coming back and would likely want a cost controlled forward also heading their way

Also, teams that know they’re more unattractive for free agents will be more inclined to trade at the draft. They’re not looking to overpay in free agency for guys that will age out of their window anyways. Those teams will be the ones wheeling with TBL, WPG, and TO.

This offseason will change the dynamic of the league moreso than any one we’ve seen in the past

Will it?

I think John Cooper gets fried because he’s bad and Kadri gets dealt because he’s a poophead. That’s it.

For me, ultimately, it's ABB (anyone but Boston). Would like Jumbo Joe to win one, if not them a team in the west... And if it must be won by a team in the east, then it's Carolina for me.

I’m a big Pavelski fan. Love Jumbo too, but Pavs is a big part of the Team USA that I fell in love with in Sochi. Ultimately I want the Sharks to win, and if I were to pick a team out of the East it’d be Caroline too, but I can’t help but root for this run CBJ is having.

I don’t see why Winnipeg would want Kessel with Laine being a right handed shot and a PP specialist. They don’t really need a “spark” for their PP as they were 4th in the NHL.

I’d like to see a team that has never won the cup win this year: St.Louis or San Jose would be cool. CBJ would be ok too even though I don’t like Torts that much.

There are so many impactful free agents out there. Imagine the same Dallas team next year but if they add Hayes and drop Spezza. There’s going to be a bit of a goalie switch with Bob, Talbot, Varlamov, McElhinney all switching clubs. Whoever gets Karlsson and Panarin are going to change the dynamic of their team but there’s also Brock Nelson, Anders Lee and on and on. I think Philly is going to be active. Not Panarin active but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if they grab a scoring forward and their kids take the next step in front of Hart

I said Nashville not Winnipeg. Winnipeg needs a replacement shutdown D to replace Trouba. Nashville needs PP help

I think it would be more like Schultz, Maatta, Blueger and a pick. Trouba isn’t going to be cheap. He’s potentially a #2 defensemen. He probably holds out for $8MM as well so he might not even be the most ideal fit for us

Scratch that, they would probably want Dumo instead of Schultz. Maybe they take Dumoulin, Maatta, and Rust. Players like Trouba don’t come available often

Dumo, Rust +. Then flip Schultz for a second pairing LD.

Have to imagine that Jim Benning is going to be active in free agency again. He’s going to re-sign Edler and give a spot to Quinn Hughes on the back end but I think he might have interest in Ruhwedel as a depth guy. It also wouldn’t surprise me one bit if he’s the guy who throws Panik 4.125x4 or something lol

We all know Florida is looking to add. Carolina isn’t going to just not replace losing Ferland but may very well lose McElhinney. Edmonton finally has a little cap space to sign some fringe guys like Pirri on “prove it” contracts. Once Calgary unloads Neal they’ll look to replace him. If the Islanders get Panarin then likely 2 of Eberle, Nelson, Lee are available. Shero will be active after drafting another top line center. He’ll be looking to support and protect his players to ensure a long term deal gets done with Hall. Whoever gets Karlsson will have everything change. The Jets likely send Trouba east. Just lots of possibilities this offseason. If LA retains salary to even out the money does a Neal for Kovulchuk trade make some sense? If Kovy lights up the worlds then maybe it does. Who does SJ get to replace Karlsson? Do they settle for a guy like Maatta or Schultz? Idk but we’ll find out

They key for them is cost controlled. They might not even want Schultz or Maatta. Maybe the demand is Dumoulin, Petts, and Rust for the rights to Trouba. These (Rust to a lesser extent) are the kinds of guys they’d be looking for imo
