Toronto should be keeping Kadri and shipping out that douche-bag of a coach (Babcock) out of town. Totally miss handled a super lineup. The game has passed Babcock by. |

This isn't your typical "hurr durr ur guna lose Marner" post, but...don't you kinda need the cap space?
Leafs are projected to have around $5.2M in space next year, figure that'll be $7M-$8M with whatever the cap rises to. Marner is going to eat up all of that alone, and then there's still other guys that need deals.
Shedding his $4.5M cap hit would go a long way. - eichiefs9
I don't disagree. It's a complicated situation, and the cap situation is going to be the real competitor this upcoming season.
I don't think that getting rid of a $4.5mil, 2x 30+ goal scorer is necessarily the best idea in a cap crunch though. When in cap trouble, try to keep the players that are cap friendly.
We wouldn't be discussing getting rid of him being the best option if he hadn't just proven himself to be a Richard for a second season in a row. I guess my point was: don't get rid of Kadri because of his suspensions. Get rid of him if there's a cap reason to do so.
The Leafs are a worse team without him on the ice, and re-spending that 4.5mil to try to make up for losing him isn't going to be very easy. I'd rather get rid of somebody like Nylander who makes more, and played all 7 games even if you couldn't tell he was playing for most of them. |

Lol, why on earth would Toronto part with Kadri? He's a good hockey player, provides grit, on a great contract. If they traded him, their immediate next problem would be "so, where do we find another Kadri?"
The Leafs don't need less Kadris. They need about 1 more Kadri, another Jake Muzzin, and maybe a new coach too. |

Ya they'll definitely have to make some moves but forgot they've got Hortons contract to throw on LTIR for another 5.3MM in space.

For those of you worried about the Leafs cap situation let me break it down for you.
They probably can't move Marleau, but that would more or less solve everything. If not, they could move Nylander but that would require serious value in return and probably won't happen.
Likely scenario....
No Gardiner
No Hainsey
No Brown
Finished.
Many young ELC players and cheap contracts at the bottom of the lineup(Rosen, Moore, etc)...no help on D for one season until Marleau is gone except that the kids could be better than Hainsey....Rosen, Sandin, Lilegren... |

Hi Ek, good blog. One thing though -- when fabricating quotes you should try to make it sound more conversational and realistic. |

Why do all the pundits and bloggers think removing 4.5 million, then at minimum adding an entry level guy to replace him, ultimately gaining 3.75 million in cap space (assuming it's picks and not even a salaried player back), is going to solve all these cap problems for the Leafs? Let's say this scenario plays out, now they have 16 million to fill 12/13 spots. Plus they will regress in talent. Big, big problems, and unless he moves out a large salary moving Kadri is counter-productive. |
