One of the biggest things i've noticed from this tournament alone is the offensive creativity from USA is far superior to Canada's. Granted Canada has much better all around players but the difference between Zegras, Hughes, Boldy compared to Newhook, Krebs and Tracey in terms of what can be done in the offensive zone was night and day. - manvanfan

What would it take for you guys to trade Markstrom? Like pick/prospect wise.
He's one of the few true veteran "sell high" candidates at 29 years old and coming off of what is considered to be his best season.
It's a ballsy move since you put a lot of faith into Demko moving forward, and would have to go into free agency needing to sign a goalie to split starts with him. - Nucker101

Do you think Canucks would have given him only a two year deal if they thought he was the real deal? - VANTEL
Called a bridge contract & young backups don’t get the big bucks. |

Last word on the topic for me.
A team that has the best talent & plays all year together should win gold. Not teams that have PO’s going on & what is left make up their team. Guess it might be Bronze. |

I know I am late to the party, but, I wonder if the Canadian squad, might still have several top players playing in the CHL playoffs and Junior playoffs?

Apologies if this has been gone over before, i haven't been here very much of late.
Read a dubious rumor (via Botchford) that involves PK Subban to Vancouver.
Would somehow involve Van taking James Neal off the Flames, with the sweetener of it's 1st rounder and a prospect like Dube.
Vancouver would then flip the 1st and prospect from Calgary, plus ??? to take PK's salary off of Nsh.
Thoughts?
Seems like a steep price to pay from Calgary's pov to get out from under Neal's contract.
Nashville i could see as interested in moving on from PK and bringing up Fabbro to play with Josi, Ekholm, Ellis and Hamhuis, et al.
I know people were discussing the potential trade for PK years ago and have likely soured on him now.
I'd be good with trading for him under certain conditions.
Trade Tanev for prospects/picks.
Trade Sutter and Eriksson (if we're acquiring Neal).
Trade the Calgary package plus Goldobin and Hutton for PK
Edler, Hughes, Stetcher, Subban is a much improved top 4 imo.

Flames 1st is late in a draft not that deep.
Dube is nothing special.
9.5m for PK is not good value for his age.
Botchfords idea does us no favours.
Why help Calgary & the Preds?
Neal is a big cap drag. |

Dach would probably be the only one missing.
The US does a lot of short ice 3 on 3 when they are younger to promote creativity and individual skills like stick handling. I feel as if you are starting to see the effect of it in the American players.

I like Subban and do think he would improve the team and be really fun to watch even if he would be overpaid. I also have time for some of Botch's stuff, but none of that makes sense to me or seems plausible.
No way does Calgary give up that much to move Neal IMO. I also think I take Dube and an extra 1st plus whatever other picks and prospects we would need to add over Subban at this point of the rebuild. |

So a stud defenseman like Byram or a player like Lafreniere and Lavoie don't count?
Those were just 3 names off the top of my head, so I would think that there are several other higher end players that aren't on the team.
Funny how it was always said on here that these types of tournaments are not that important when assessing talent, until some on here overhype the Americans who have the advantage of team chemistry.

Fair enough, this is the silly season.
There are always team who manage to get good players from teams in bad cap spots, here's hoping we can land one.
Leivo looks to be one already although that was more of a waivers thing than cap and I'm still gun shy on proclaiming him to be anything more than the rest of the scraps long term.
I wonder if he's a sell high candidate for another pick. |

Lavoie is to old players like Byfield and Barron are not though.
