T.O. will not let Marner go the "proposed" deal is not enough especially since Provy took a step back this year. So T.O. uses up 34 million on three players so what the fans are happy when the leaf's are in the playoffs they do not need to be contenders.

Lol! Morgan Reilly is not way better than Ivan Provorov. He had a better year and is maybe better right now. He just had a career year and Provorov just had his worst year. That aside, no one with any sense would argue that Reilly, after 3 seasons, was better than Provorov is right now. Reilly was put right on the PP almost from day 1 and wasn’t given a hard workload for a couple of seasons. After 20 NHL games Provorov was the Flyers #1 D Playing over 20 min per game. Last year - his 2nd in the NHL - 15 of Provorov’s 17 goals were scored at 5v5 and he got very little PP time. By almost any measure, Provorov is ahead of Reilly at a similar point in his career. The idea that he’s “way better” is at best, debatable.

One of your idiot colleagues said Provorov would instantly be the leafs best D man. Currently Rielly is significantly better.

I don’t really have colleagues. Anyway, Provorov had a bad year no doubt but he was a 24-25 min per game guy at 21 years old. The only question is how high his offensive ceiling is. To find out, he would have to get top PP minutes, which he has never had. When comparing the two players, you have to consider their usage. Provorov has never started fewer than 58% of his shifts in the d zone in any season. Reilly has only had 2 seasons where his d zone starts were over 50%. Reilly put up huge numbers this year but there is little if any basis to say he is better defensively than Provorov. In summary, yes, on 4/28/2019, Reilly is a better offensive defenseman. Defensively, not so much. That said, Provorov will need to bounce back big time next season to allay any concerns about his development and overall potential. To many, the sky is still the limit for now.

Blah blah blah

I am being more forthright dude cmon. Last year Provy had 17 goals and was a beast basically being used the same as he was this year. This year was a bad year if you base it on his previous two years.
I watch the flyers heavily. Take the underlying numbers analytics etc out.
Provy had a tough year. The question is what is the real picture. His first two years or this past season.
Provy had a much better second half. The flyers were a train wreck all year.
If you don’t think he is a number one dman then maybe you should invest in some streaming services and actually watch some flyers games.

Instead of saying blah blah blah, maybe check out the post again. I said Rielly is the number 1 and Provorov is really good. I’d love it if he was a leaf but to me, Rielly is still ahead. 20 goals and 72 points is a number one, it’s not like I’m being ridiculously biased. Provorov isn’t there yet or has yet to prove he’s automatically ahead of Rielly, he’ll probably get there but until it happens can’t say for sure. That’s why I said the flyers shouldn’t trade him one because they’d be selling low on him.

Check out some Leaf games and you’ll see how important Rielly is to the team. He’s arguably their most important player.

Of course this is clickbait, but go ahead and offer sheet him. 4 first rounders from a team that'll be out of the playoffs for the foreseeable future probably gets them at least a top 3 pick in one of those seasons.

I love me some TK but he's just not in the same conversation as Marner.

For poops and giggles I offer Ghost and TK for Marner and Kadri. If that's not good enough so be it. As far as D men go they aren't getting Provorov or Sanhiem. Flyers can't afford to move them.

Now I bet we'd take Marleau off your hands to help your cap situation but it's going to cost you Kapanen.

Nobody is going to offer sheet Marner. Price in dollars is way too high. Price in draft picks is ludicrous. Most important the kid needs to show he can lead a team in the playoffs and help them win at least a series. Lots of dancers can perform well for auditions but they choke when they get to opening night before a live audience. The playoffs are opening night and nothing Marner did indicates he should be the lead dancer.

I don't know what has happened in Toronto. They want to pay top dollar to a bum like Tavares. He has never won anything, nada, zilch. Winners win. Losers pad their personal statistics but fail to deliver at show time. A long time ago Boston traded Thornton for hockey sticks because they did not think he was a winner. Great scorer but could not win. History proved them right. Guys like Thornton, Spezza and Tavares have great individual skill but they do not have the heart of a winner and they disproportionately affect the outcome for the entire team.

Talk to me again about this once Marner has actually achieved something.

But, I love Marner as a player. One of the most entertaining skaters and playmakers in the league...but not at 4 first round picks.

So Tavares is just like Karlsson, or Alfredsson. Gotcha.

Rielly would still be number one, his numbers speak for themselves. I'm sure Provorov is great, and I'd love it if he were a Leaf, but 7 goals and 26 pts in 82 games doesnt scream he's ready yet, even if he was a defensive stud. I'm sure he will be soon, but for now the Flyers would be selling low on him, which would be bad.

only on planet uranus would rielly by a number 1 over provorov. you would still be playing if he was..

Hardly, Alfredsson led the Sens to many playoff wins including a trip to the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Season before being traded Karlsson put on an incredible show as he dragged an under talented Sens squad to the Eastern Conference final losing in overtime in game 7 to the Pens. He was far and away the best performer of any player on the ice in every series he played in.

Tavares has done nada. All the years in Long Island and no playoff series win.

Marner will sign for low salary but long term to help the team. He is a Leaf for life.
