lol, i never said otherwise. My opinion on what the Canucks should and shouldn't do is about timing, rather than the absolute of exploring a player in free agency or unplugging your phone line and call-blocking your pro scouting department. You guys are taking my opinion out of context 100% - Codes1087
Define timing?
Timing is when a UFA is available & Panarin is not Schaller ππ |

Schaller was a smart signing that didn't turn out well. He did have 12 goals the year before. He was suppose to add toughness and chip in 10 goals . Signings don't always work out.

don't get me wrong, I like Panarin as a player, and if the Canucks were a little bit more well-rounded in their roster, a player like Panarin (cap permitting) makes sense, I just personally don't think the time is right to land him, just my opinion. - Codes1087
I get that we're a couple years away from being a competitive team, but I'd wager he has many productive years left in him. If by some miracle he was willing to sign here you have to go for it. One more piece in place for when you're ready to compete |

The Canucks don't have one or two holes to fill, they have multiple. They are trending in the right direction, but I don't think at this specific stage of the Canucks "rebuild", going after a top end UFA is the way to build. Again, its just my opinion, not sure why you have to know it backwards and front and why lol. I don't want the Canucks to make trades that will fill holes by creating new ones, I don't want the Canucks to make a similar mistake like they did with LE, and I don't think the timing is right (just my opinion) to go after high end UFA's. |

Take Panarin away from CBJ & what do you have?
Nashville
If we had Panarin are we a PO team? Probably
Would he mess up our cap? Hardly
Do we need more core pieces? Yes

Schaller is a filler while we build nothing more. Yes it hasnβt worked out but he is only $1.9m |

This is my thinking as well.
It's not like Vancouver has ever really been a hot spot for high end UFA's to sign (like NYR's), although we have landed some local boys like Willie Mitchel and Hamhuis.
It's not practical to expect that once the team is 'ready' in a few more years that there will be high end UFA's waiting to sign here. |

I think you need to let go and realize he will sign with his old coach in Miami with a great lifestyle, a strong Russian Community and a place his wife will absolutely love.
It is okay to dream big but Panarin to Vancouver is not happening

Yep, gotta take those swings when you get the chance.
Hopefully if there end up being any UFAs of this caliber over the next few years Van will be attractive enough to give us a chance at signing them |
