Schaller was a smart signing that didn't turn out well. He did have 12 goals the year before. He was suppose to add toughness and chip in 10 goals . Signings don't always work out.

The only free agent signing Benning’s made that actually worked out is Vrbata, if I recall correctly. That’s a lot of misses.

I think you need to let go and realize he will sign with his old coach in Miami with a great lifestyle, a strong Russian Community and a place his wife will absolutely love.

It is okay to dream big but Panarin to Vancouver is not happening

Who was the big ticket item some wanted last year?
I seem to remember debates about John Carlson before he re-signed with Wsh.

This is my thinking as well.
It's not like Vancouver has ever really been a hot spot for high end UFA's to sign (like NYR's), although we have landed some local boys like Willie Mitchel and Hamhuis.

It's not practical to expect that once the team is 'ready' in a few more years that there will be high end UFA's waiting to sign here.

Panarin fills 1 big hole...presto
LE is not nor ever was a Panarin nor suggesting Panarin is a mistake is beyond funny lol

- Nighthawk

It wasn't a player vs player comparison, it was a contract to a UFA referenced that is effecting us long term (reasoning).

Again, Panarin turns 28 this Oct, which means, if you give him a max contract (assuming he will demand), he will be 35 when it ends. Hes a very very good player, but anytime you have a player, who is going to have a massive AAV in his early to mid 30's, I tend to worry about it.

Can we stop talking about why I don't want to sign Panarin now lol

LE’s contract has not hurt us in any way.
He has sucked & that is all.

I liked all three signings last year and I am sure Washington wish they had Beagle instead of Dowd but everyone has their own opinion.

Not the same situation but I have always hated Lindros because of his refusal to go to the Nordiques.

I stand corrected, the Roussel signing was a good one in my opinion. So there’s two. Beagle is just ok, didn’t hurt the team, or help it, as a player, good locker room guy apparently but you don’t overpay guys to be good locker room guys.

No, he wanted to play here. Well ok, it was a good signing, but I’m putting a star beside it

Canucks were 10 goals better on the goals against . I realize Markstrom had a great year but Tanev and Sutter who are defensive specialist missed a ton of games. I think the numbers could have been much worst if we went with Dowd.

Our goals for might have improved some if Sutter had been healthier too since Horvat wouldn't have had to take 90% of the defensive draws and could've played a little more offense

I know I am one of the few but I expect a big year. I would be shocked and pissed if we were bottom 10 again.

We finished 9th last from 6th last, circumstantial, the team sucked because it’s got too many poop bottom six players. Benning’s been a failure of a GM but at least the past two drafts have been productive.
