Those thinking Connor is superior to Ehlers,
Murat posted this,
Ehlers has more points 5v5 points per minute than Connor while playing less than half the time with 55&26.
Ehlers has better defensive zone and shot share stats
Ehlers doesn’t play top PP even though he is out most successful player at gaining the zone.
I am not knocking Connor, he’s great, just saying Ehlers is the better all around player and at 6 million will cost less for the next 6 years - Ross77

Not saying who is better, but I'm hoping both Ehlers and Connor are Wpg Jets for a long period. Put us fans on the edge of our seats, at least moi. Not a huge fan of extended stats, rather go (mostly) by eyesight.
Ehlers has super good contract for himself and team, hopefully the same pertains to Connor. Guess we'll find out in next couple of months. 7 x 7? |

The problem as I see it is if you are building a team and ranking the importance of all positions on your team, you are going to have Center, D and goalie in some arrangement from 1-3 with wingers being least important on probably everyone’s list.
Does it make sense for the better meant of the team and over all spend of cap dollars to be spending roughly 30 million on 4 wingers (Laine, wheels, Ehlers, Connor) ?
I say no, not with guys like Roslovic, apples and Vesalainen all talented and making far less money.
So to me, one has to go to fill a need elsewhere be it D or 2nd line Center. |

Ross - you suggest an interesting thought here
Seems to me - these days with cap - that a team has 4 primary components:
1. long term 'core' players
2. shorter term serviceable players that get cycled through on a more regular basis
3. ELC players where you hope to get big production while they are on cheap contracts
4. banked cap space to make deadline moves
So - the question becomes: for those winning Stanley Cups - how does that break down ? ... is there a common distribution ?
I'm not asking cause I know - asking cause I don't

Ross you got me thinking about a blockbuster.
To WPG: Sean Couturier, Ivan Provorov, Travis Sanheim
To PHI: Jacob Trouba, Mathieu Perreault, Adam Lowry, Kyle Connor, Dylan Sandberg
I am just throwing this out there. |

I would hate to see Connor go...Maybe he can somehow swap Little for Connor...
Connor Scheiffs Wheeler
Ehlers Couturier Laine
Tanev Raslovic Copp
Vesalainen Appleton Shaw
Proverov Buff
Morrissey Sanheim
Chiarot/Kuli Niku/Morrow/Meyers |

Tanev won't be here because some team is going to pay 3 to 4 mill according to illegal curve. And, forget about Myers as the price seems to be 40 mill for 6 years according to EK. |

I know you love to lob these massive deals out but because they have 0% chance of happening I usually ignore but today because you've been so kind I'll break this one down for ya.
Cotourier to Philly is Sheifele to us, so he is probably 1 of 3 or 4 absolute untouchables to them. Flyers like us are weak down the middle, you don't solve this by trading away your best one.
Provorov and Sanheim are also completely untouchable to them, maybe, maybe you pry one in a Trouba deal but never both. Philly will move Ghost and Phillipe Myers before those 2. and there will plenty of teams interested in the two they will trade and offer them good young forwards to make it happen
If center is what you are truly after I'd focus on a Trouba deal that includes one of these as most likely; whether we like it or not, this is what's realistic.
ignore my spelling
Florida - Trocheck, or Borgman
Detroit - Rasmussen, or Anthousiea
NYR - Anderson, or Howden
Tampa - Johnson

Haha ill have what EK is smoking. I see Meyers more in the 3 year range at 4.5M AAV. 6 years at 40M is an easy one to walk away from. Yikes.
Tanev has been a late bloomer, who earned every paycheck he has gotten. At 27 years old, I could see him getting a 4 year 2.5M AAV, but I have a hard time seeing him making 4M AAV.
Chevy has done very well thus far with his signings. The only one I am not a fan of is the Little extension. He had a good season, but at his age, I'd be scared. |
