Have we settled the West side Jesus or Jesus Jesus issue?

Enquiring minds want to know.

They should have made Girgensons go to college for at least a year or two

It completely altered his development

Also it would have kept him away from the tank years

Housley's bizarre reliance on Sobotka did as much to get him fired as anything else

Going a step further, Housley's personnel useage, line making/juggling and in-game useage of his players played a large part in getting him fired. I wouldn't say those times are indicative of anything but a lost coach

- jcragcrumple

I don't really blame him for that. None of of those centers did enough to even suggest they were under-utilized. My biggest gripe is his insistence on Sam on the 1st line. The gap between the 3rd and 4th best forward on this team was immense. Stacking a top line, and continually going back to it, was a terrible move.

No need to keep Girgs. I’m sure he’s a nice guy and all but his player type are a dime a dozen.

I consider Sobotka's overuse in '18-'19 as a war crime against Sabres fans. Not really, but close. There is no rationalizing it to me.

12p in 69gp at 12:11 per game even strength. Yes, he had a 67% even strength d zone start rate. That's still abysmal. Add to that the fact that he was -20 (which, i get it, take the stat or leave it)

I just imagine what must be going through his mind when they have a dzone draw, Larsson's line was just out, and he knows 2 other lines are incompetent defensively.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Eichel line starting to take a lot more dzone draws towards the end of the year? I thought I saw a post that they were doing this and it seemed to be working to offset some of those starts.

If the other lines are incompetent defensively, but Sobotka has the worst +/- of any forward, how do we know they would be more incompetent than that?

Or put in another way, I believe the stats show that Sobotka was incompetent. So why not try something else? The results showed that this approach did not work. Would another approach have worked? I'm not sure. I do know that Evan Rodrigues had considerably more offensive success with a comparable d-zone start rate (59% compared to 67%)

I understand that Housley had to play someone, but i don't think he needed to play sobotka anywhere near as much as he did

Maybe He could of transformed his game into to the style of Ryan Kessler

We will never know 🧐

Whoever said he is goose 2.0 When we drafted him maybe that would’ve saved his career here if that was true

Eichel isn't a problem defensively. Skinner is. Sheary too. Either way, 2 lines are issues.

ERod got more minutes than Sobotka + PP time and gave us average third line production with 2nd line usage. That's a problem too. We just rank the problems differently.

There's room for improvement, but his defense isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. All they see is a few rushes 3-on-3 where he was gassed and not coming back like an uber try hard on the back check when this team was all kinds of out from the playoffs

Also, it would take Briere like 10 strides to get the same distance as Eichel does in 2 (im exaggerating for effect).

Jack's capable of playing strong defense, when he wants to. Dzone starts aren't an issue.

One of his biggest problems is getting himself stuck out on ultra-long shifts.
