Jack's capable of playing strong defense, when he wants to. Dzone starts aren't an issue.
One of his biggest problems is getting himself stuck out on ultra-long shifts. - Lunaion
Agreed, by extension I think his biggest problem is he's trying to do way too much. Some shifts you're better off just keeping things simple, and doing those simple things well. |

There's room for improvement, but his defense isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. All they see is a few rushes 3-on-3 where he was gassed and not coming back like an uber try hard on the back check when this team was all kinds of out from the playoffs
Also, it would take Briere like 10 strides to get the same distance as Eichel does in 2 (im exaggerating for effect). - Sabresfan-365

This seems to be an issue with at least 75% of the players. Watching these playoffs, it amazes me how many guys coast to the bench when the want to get off. And while some are ferocious on the back check (Stone), many others put in a half-aXXed effort (Ovi).
But your point stands, Jack if wearing the "C", he needs to skate hard every single shift on the back check and getting off the ice. - SabreWest

ERod got more minutes than Sobotka + PP time and gave us average third line production with 2nd line usage. That's a problem too. We just rank the problems differently. - Lunaion
Erod had 30 seconds more of even strength time per game than Sobotka and doubled his even strength production. So if Erod had 2nd line useage, so did Sobotka, and they both started in the D zone.
With regards to Sobotka, he played equally to the other non-eichel lines, produced less then any one else, and had the worst +/-
It all leads to the fact that he was over played for no good reason. Housely was out of his element |

There were reasons he played who he did, and a huge part of that was lack of viable options. Line combinations and usage don't fix this team.

Does Botts go after Hagelin and Connolly this summer?
Is this city really ready for another Connolly? Does it even deserve another Connolly?
Those 2 are better than Gus and Larry |

Sabres have interviewed Tippet and are interested in interviewing Keefe according to Friedman. Also said with Bogo’s surgery that Risto moving isn’t a guarantee. |
