Letangs only problem is that he passes up the easy play to go for a high risk one too often.

I love Letang but I don't feel the need to keep him just for the sake of it. The reason to keep him is because you won't get fair value.

6 Mario
4 Kovy
1 Kunitz
1 Kasper
2 Martin
1 Hedberg

When Mario’s available you pick Mario. Wish Adams was included for 1. Could have went a little more expensive on the D.

If 1 of the big 4 get traded I think it's Malkin.

Crosby: Not gonna happen
Letang: Top Dman, reasonable Cap, still very good. Injury history makes less valuable on the market
Kessel: Still a lethal shot, decent cap hit for production. Weak on the RW if you factor in Hornquest
Malkin: Produces at a high rate, but hurt a lot. No show in the playoffs and much of this year. I think a team would like a #1C but no clue what the return would be. Question is what does Malkin want?

I'm sorry how is that relative to Letang? Guentzel was 15 in 2009.

Interesting of all people you pick the softest Dman in Pens history. Why did Martin even make this list?

Really? So the Pens won a Cup in 2009 without a guy was even old enough to play in the league is the same thing as Letang, who was on the team in 2017, but didn't play a game in the playoffs, but Pens still won?

You're right, the Pens didn't win the Cup in 2017 without Letang playing. That was fake news reported on CNN.

Nah, definitely wasn't fake news. Sure it happened, but it sure as (frank) wasn't pretty.

Pens basically lucked themselves to a cup. PDO is a hell of a drug.

So what you're saying is the Pens are a better team without Letang than with him, eh?

Haha ok. I think trading Letang couldn’t be a bigger mistake.

People claim we win without him, but he’s also a huge part why we even get in to the playoffs.

How does a team luck its way into winning 16 playoff games in 2+ grueling months?

By only having to win 16 games. The Buffalo Sabres won 10 games in a row at one point this year.

It's unlikely, but not impossible.

Big difference between regular season and playoffs. You maybe lucky in winning a round but four rounds? No way!

There's really not.

If anything playoff results are even more random than regular season.

Not really that big of a difference. It's hockey, the game doesn't dramatically change in the playoffs.

So the pressure on June 1st is the same as the pressure on November 1st? The referees call the same penalties?

How do you measure pressure?

Average PIM per game is higher in the playoffs than the regular season by around 2 minutes.

Fine, you're right. The pressure is the same in game 7 of the playoffs as it is in November and December.

Maybe not the right term, but they are a young(ish) team that is looking to open a window in the near future, and trading top young players for short-term fixes is not in their best interests.

To play devil’s advocate here, I think guys know they can get away with way more in the playoff so they commit would would technically be penalties at a higher rate knowing that the refs won’t call poop. The PIM increase, but not proportionally to penalize-able infractions, I think. Obviously I can’t prove this, but this is what I think I see happening.

Interference is definitely being let go more than usual.
