a faceWASH is not a hit from behind to the head. Your reasoning is worse. - Leniwm1
But it's a hit to the head, right?
Where does it say "a hit from behind" in your "I thought NHL had a no head hit policy?" quote? Why does it have to be from behind? So it's okay to throw a flying elbow at a guy's head as long as it's not to the back of the head?

A facewash is not a hit bro. ANY hit to the head i thought. You are nitpicking yet know exactly what Im talking about.
The NHL seems to have different rule books for players, playoffs and regular season. Its such BS at this point. If marchand was a 30 pt player he'd be penalized for that cheapshot and all his others.

Of course I'm nitpicking. A light shove to the back of the head is in a whole different universe than Tom Wilson throwing a flying elbow at a guy. It's a Richard move, but it's not what the intent of that rule was.
Okay fine: replace "facewash" with "rabbit punch in a scrum." Better?
Also, when you give someone a facewash, you are making contact to their face (part of the head) with your glove. How is that not "hitting" a guy?
I'm not saying he doesn't deserve punishment, I just think you're also nitpicking with your rationale.
I'm curious what all the Boston fans would be saying if Nazim Kadri did that in Rnd 1 ?? Punching from behind a defenseless player who is on his knees !!
I speculate they'd be yelling for suspension.
Funny how Kadri seemed to get a suspension from DOPS for a hit against Boston. I'm thinking DOPS is bipolar.

Again, while I'm not a Boston fan by any stretch, what Kadri did on Round 1 and what Marchand did here are in two completely diiferent realms. What Marchand did was a Richard move. What Kadri did was intentionally try to injure a guy.

Yeah, I don't see what everybody is so upset about here.
It was a Richard move, but it's not like it was dangerous.
If this was the case, Ken Linseman would have been in 6 fights every game. I agree that the player can no longer police the game, and I don't like that. However, it's not like every single cheap shot in every game was handled by the local Bob Probert going out and destroying someone. - jmatchett383
But it cut down on a lot of those cheap shots, and it sure was fun to watch!!

Also, I would give him a game on the, "Dude, you know what you did," clause. He can't defend himself with the "hockey play" defense and there was just no need for it.
But they won't because it's the playoffs, so it's the "No harm, no foul" clause.

Well yeah, there weren't as many stick swinging and flying elbow incidents back then. Part of it was just players respecting each other and being coached on how to properly deliver and receive a body check instead of watching Milan Lucic highlights on TSN.

Regular season maybe, but man dirty poop like that happens in every scrum in these games. it's just this was super blatant.

Well that's my point, it was just a "Dude, wtf" moment. He didn't even give a (frank) that he did it, and then skated away. If it happened in a scrum where they're jawing and jabbing, then whatever. This was a bit different.

you know your talking about a 2 handed cross check to the face, right?
They have a section on PornHub called "Gay". Should have what you're looking for. - glove_was_stuck
It's not gay if the shim's on hormones.
Well if he (and the NHL) think it's totally okay to lick another man's face, then I want to see how he (and the NHL) would reach to someone putting their tongue in his mouth. I mean, he shouldn't have any issue with it, right?
Someone brushing his teeth with a brick would be an acceptable substitution.
Leafs fans were pretty confident last round too. - Mahewman
I'm not confident at all, I just don't think the ice had anything to do with the outcome of last nights game. It's been a good series so far, I just hope it continues to be.
