Bye women's hockey. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. - AdamFrench
Playing a sport professionally is a privilege, not a right.
Unfortunately, no matter how good it is for young girls to see growing up, if the league isn't profitable enough to pay them a living wage, then it isn't viable.
I'm all for them earning an equal percentage of league revenue/profit as in the NHL, but we all know it isn't the share that is the issue, it's the top line. |

It won't be cap reasons that see him go. It'll only be "if" his demands are out of whack with reality. If he sees himself getting top line centre $$ then you gotta take a pass.
Mackenzie put it pretty well the other day when he was talking about the WN negotiations. The real objective window of what he should have gotten was between 6.5 and 7.5 and the Leafs held out to the 11th hour trying to get WN to take no more than Pasternak (6.6) Ultimately they give him 6.9. Was the result of having WN miss camp and 2 months worth that fight? Probably not but you've got to have the fight.
The part he needs to change is to have the fight on his own terms. Set a July 1 deadline and be prepared to move on if you can. - The Law
Bob is the best, and i dont see anyone close to him. always rational level headed opinions. I like Chris Johnson also, he is growing on me.

In descending order, the Stanley Cups in the salary cap era were won by teams in the following states:
District of Columbia
Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania
Illinois
California
Illinois
California
Massachusetts
Illinois
Pennsylvania
Michigan
California
North Carolina
District of Columbia is a weird one, but ultimately it isn't a "low-tax state". It's essentially one of the highest.
Pennsylvania, Illinois and Michigan are lower, but not like Florida.
California is one of the highest - especially for high incomes.
It doesn't really look like a huge factor.
P.S. States with low or no income taxes will typically have higher property taxes. At the end of the day, money to pay for roads and firefighters has to come from somewhere. - Atomic Wedgie
Agreed it's been a non-factor so far. I have some good friends in Florida so we've had this discussion a few times (and did some drunkin' googling). Seems that Florida has only slightly higher property taxes then the average but they do have higher sales tax. The cost for Florida residents is quality of life for the the poor.
If TBay wins a Cup I think you really could attribute some of that to taxes. Stamkos and Kucherov clearly both considered "net" dollars when they signed their deals. Point likely does the same.
If we could only get the earth to shift it's axis enough to warm up southern Ontario. |

It's really weird, because I remember at the time people wondering why the frank we took him so high - that we could have taken him with a 6th round pick.

Ya, Bob just has his head screwed on straight, he's really good. Lebrun is good too. And I think CJ is pretty good - more of a "rumour" type than an analysis guy.

So, like true fans, do we pencil him into the 2nd line and mark him down for 25 goals? |

I was thinking about the playoffs. A lot of moves were made at the deadline and here are some of the players out:
Stone
Hayes
Simmonds
Boyle
Granlund
Jensen
Hagelin
Petan
Muzzin
Players still playing:
Duchene
Zuccarello
Dzingel
Mcquaid
Coyle
Johannsson
Tells me you don't need to blow your load to make a splash in the playoffs. |

Lebrun for me is very bland and he doesnt add any value..I pretty much ignore him
He seems like a really nice guy..but he toes the line and imo has more of a 200 hockey men mindset |

Not having health insurance blew my mind. At least have that for your players. I think paying them all something decent would be a start. I don't know the revenue of teams or leagues but what about even just minimum wage salary? $30k a year per player. |

But where does that money come from?
It seems like everyone agrees that the women should make decent salaries, but nobody is actually willing to buy tickets and go to the games.
To be perfectly honest, I went to the all-star game this year, and the atmosphere was dead. Now, it was an all-star game, so that was to be expected, but the passion just isn't there.
About 5 years ago, I went to a Canada-USA game at the ACC - in the leadup to the Olympics. There were probably 14,000 fans there, and the atmosphere was electric. Fans were really into it.
I honestly don't know if there is enough interest for a women's league - and I say that as a guy with two girls in hockey right now.
I think a better business model would be to mirror USA Hockey's National Development Program - have Hockey Canada and Hockey USA pay the top 50 players in each country. Have a dozen exhibition games throughout the year, and otherwise they can play as a teams in men's leagues.
Kinda like what they already do in Olympic years. |

If they can't pull in NLL type salaries ($15k per year) what the hell are we even doing here? |

I fully get that. Of course revenue would need to support the salaries. I don't see how it works considering there's like 5 teams. |

in this mock draft he is a 6th round pick
https://www.draftsite.com/nhl/mock-draft/2016/ - senstroll
Guys his age usually don't garner that much attention. Off the top of my head the only overagers picked that early or earlier are Tanner Pearson and Viktor Tikhonov. |
