Here's some "food for thought"

- Atomic Wedgie

a couple of observations and questions

1) how the f___ did the spaghetti and meatballs go double?
2) what the heck do they put in today's turkey sandwich?
3) and how many calories in a Jake Gardiner memorial turnover?

Man, I didn't realise how old Red Kelly was. I mean, I knew he was old but I didn't know he was 91. RIP.

1) They give you twice as much spaghetti and twice as many meatballs.
2) Twice as much turkey and seven times as much mayo.
3) 1967 calories.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone else who has his number retired by two teams (Gretzky doesn't count).

Edit: I cheated with the Googles:

Bobby Hull - Chicago Blackhawks and Winnipeg Jets/Arizona Coyotes
Gordie Howe - Detroit Red Wings and Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes
Wayne Gretzky - Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings (also retired league-wide)
Ray Bourque - Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche
Mark Messier - New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers
Patrick Roy - Colorado Avalanche and Montreal Canadiens
Tim Horton - Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs

I should have got Messier.

Probably should have got Roy and Horton.

Bourque with Colorado is a joke.

I just killed the first mosquito of the year here in Scarborough.

Trillions of those little annoying flies that show up every year on my balcony and a mosquito.

It died like a female dog.

imo, this is the kind of mindset that has gotten the leafs where they are over the decades. taking flyers on low percentage players with picks just because, well its only a 4th
Having players like Point and Kucherov turn into top line talents on top of the Stamkos and Hedmans makes you elite. and before that Detroit has several examples

Not drafting 10 6'5 D hoping one turns into Chris Pronger and getting none.

That's why Johnsson is a good pick. He is a 7th round pick and looks to be a real top 6.

The annoying fly things are literally everywhere. Can't go for a walk without walking through a cloud of them.

The mosquito was near Birchmount and Kingston.

like wasting 1st round picks (moving up) to get Biggs cuz he was Lucic

and another 1st on Gauthier..because he has 3rd line C upside... and is now a somewhat serviceable 4th line C

but they are big

I guess because I only eat Spaghetti and Meatballs at home, those portions haven't changed.. you're talking restaurant size.

I get the burgers have grown... as a teen it took literally a bag full of McDonalds (which I never really liked) to fill me up... I was a Harvey's guy.. and back then they didn't have those pathetic little excuses for burgers

1967 ... I should have guessed - nice one though!

man drafting is so random, you have Jaccob Slavin taken in the 4th round in 2012 ..and you think Wow great drafting!

then you see they took 3 plugs just before him that have 4 NHL games (one named Erik Karlsson)

I like to not think about those picks

Burakovsky, Theodore, Hartman all were picked in the first round after Gauthier.

So Matthews had surgery today to remove something from a previous surgery.

Apparently it might make his back better?

At least now I understand why he isn't playing for the US at the Worlds.

1) Increased portion size.
2) Some "turkey" like product
3) 0 calories, but it will lead to an ulcer.

I always left with many questions about these drafts... I know its an unprecise science... but what irks me is you draft four or five guys (like the Leafs did) all of similar size, but with full knowledge that you can't successfully deploy a roster of 18 guys who are 5'10" and play the identical game.

extreme example - Tie Domi is 5'10" but clearly played an entirely different game than Marner does.

but the Leafs draft all these guys Johnsson(I view similarly), Dzierkals and Timashov, Bracco, before them Soshnikov, Moore, Brooks, Carcone, Der-Arguchintsev, while they may all have talents... how can you possibly develop them all at the same time... don't you need a some variation in the roster..

my point being opportunity is limited..
yet there are other needs on the Leafs roster that must be filled ...

someone in Leafs management said "we'll trade for that WITH TALENT" if we need to...

why not draft a few guys that can actually shave when they are drafted (Joking)... but any objective observer could say that any of Tom Wilson(WSH), Josh Anderson(CLB), Christian Fischer (ARZ), Ferland or Fogele (CAR) would not look bad in a Leaf jersey right now... and it is NOT the case that these guys are without talent.

- BorjeFan4Ever

Rminds me of Edmonton all those years drafting 'the best player available'. Despite the fact they desperately needed defence. All of it eventually led to a terrible trade in Hall for Larsson.

a few years after drafting Zach Boychuk one pick ahead of the good Karlsson, too.

I'm sure Rutherford saw the name and went "Well, I'm not doing THAT again."
