It's funny Leaf fans heard all year Leafs aren't good enough to be a contender next to teams like Tampa, Boston, Vegas, Washington. Look at the team's left.
- RogerRoeper

So the leafs arent good enough to compete against teams like canes, islanders, Boston or Columbus?

Yep. Clearly the contenders are the teams that just make the playoffs or are middle of the pack or some such. Hopefully the Leafs take a wild card spot next year and we'll be able to finally label them as contenders.

If Boston goes all the way, then maybe the Leafs could think they lost to the best.

If Columbus beats them, the Leafs probably can't say they would have beat Columbus.

Carolina and the Islanders play a better playoff style but the Leafs have more talent and skill than both of them but could learn a thing or two from both those teams. Defense from the Islanders and O-zone time from the Hurricanes.

Bloody hell ok got two pages in and skipped to the end... same diatribes from the same people... FFS... makes me almost miss UG's bloody sign every over the hill has been rants.

Korsh is a decent signing. Some interesting talk on Babs and a decent article on Keefe and how he goes and tries to learn and adjust and grow as a coach.

Carolina winning thrills me, hoping St. Louis can get it done too. Columbus is definitely going to be that team to beat though I think.

Ride out the playoffs see what Dubas does and how the summer goes.

#Isles fans who felt super cool chanting “we don’t need you” at a 47 goal scorer suddenly realizing they can’t score. That’s a real shame.

A) Hilarious because it was so easy to see coming and predict.

B) Most of their already crappy offensive players are pending UFAs.

Because it'd be stupid to?

Literally the only reason that he should be fired would be if the main guys on the team absolutely despise him.

- GreatGigInTheSky

Really? That's the only reason to fire him? I'd think that his handling of the team would go longer in determining that.

Complains about lack of depth, overuses said depth

Held his stars back mins wise, especially down in the 3rd period of game7

(frank)ed up the goalie pull in back to back games

Zero adjustments to horrendous special teams

Plus his tendency to bench people for an entire (frank)ing season. I mean, Oz and Holl were basically interchangeable in terms of results, but what was not good was bringing in Holl to cover injuries when he hasn't played a meaningful game in like two (frank)ing months. Even if we had more depth, he'd still find a way to bench someone for most of the damn year...

Holl was a marlie and earned his way up based on play in the ahl. He was a key contributor to the Marlies Calder cup wins. He deserved a chance. Now what he did with that chance is a different story. He never got that chance.

Oz was a khl signee who hadn't played a second of nhl games before coming here. He showed pretty clearly early on in camp that he wasn't any better than others he was competing with, but he got the starting spot. Because he was the guy that babs went to Russia to see him, hepersonally had a hand in him coming here, thus he was for better or worse going to be a bigger piece of this team this year. Not on merit, not on who earned it. It all came down to oz is babs guy and holl is dubas guy and he wasn't ever going to play the other guys guy. Hell even when they needed another dman and had callups marincrap went in ahead of holl. If you're the 7th dman, then you should be next in if one of the first 6 goes down. They they sent marincicn down because he wasn't good enough to be one of those 7 guys, but when it came time to use that 7th guy they didn't.

Burke figures Matthews and soon Marner want 5 year deals because the taxation situation is way worse than people in Canada realize. He also said in his experience when dealing with players lists of teams they don't want to be traded to all 7 Canadian teams are always on the list because of the high taxes. Said JT is the only major superstar to sign in Canada leaving an American team in at least 5 years while it happens the other way around all the time. Figures they bolt when they UFA.

I'm not saying any of this is 100%, I'm sure there is some truth to it. But if true, that means not only does the cap hurt teams like the Leafs in that they pay to keep garbage losing money teams like Phoenix afloat, but they also can't pay enough to offset the tax difference, and players want to leave or get paid so much that the club has a hard augmenting with more talent around them.

I find it curious that there are equalization payments, but nothing to counteract the taxation issues. If profitable teams have to pay to support non profit teams, then why isn't there a mechanism to help equalize the taxation issue? I'm sure it's a very complicated measure. Simply raising the cap for those teams being affected only allows them to pay higher salaries, then what happens when that player is traded to a low taxation area? What if there was an equalization pool that was shared to top up salaries of players affected by higher taxes? I'm not sure what the solution is, or even if there is a possible solution, but this has crossed my mind before. How fair can it be when a Florida based player effectively nets up to 30% more playing there than in Ontario or even California? It's an advantage to some teams that should be debated. It's especially damaging to Canadian teams.

There used to be a program where us based teams paid into a pool to help support the Canadian teams because of the exchange rate difference. But that no longer exists. It's pretty sad that their is a cap on spending AND profitable teams have to pay to support weaker ones.

Not sure if anyone talked about this last night as I am too lazy to back read. But Rosen went into the boards heavily last night in the Marlies' first game of round 2. He dove to swat a loose puck away after a juicy rebound popped out, and slid head first into the end boards. Looks like he was out cold for a few seconds, didn't return the game. Guessing he is likely done for the season.

You can see it happen early in the Marlies' game in six:

I had to bring back your Crylanders. It's just what they're called now. Because their fans cry a lot. Because they're babies. Because Tavares isn't around to put appie juice in their babas.

Brett Pesce's dad, a New Yorker himself, got into a fight with one in game 2 in Long Island.

Then yesterday he referred to Isles fans as a bunch of "little female doges" because all they talk about is how poorly their team is playing, and how it couldn't possibly be that the opponent is any good.

Im pretty happy for Carolina. They are a team I feel like I can root for. Good for them going up 3-0. I still would have loved to see the Islanders vs. Leafs this year. Would have been fun.
