Yep ... you can thank all those 1st round draft picks that haven't panned out in the last 10 years (see below) for that.

Danny Kristo (2008)
Louis Leblanc (2009)
Jared Tinordi (2010)
Nathan Beaulieu (2011)
Alex Galchenyuk (2012)
Michael McCarron (2013)
Nikita Scherbak (2014)

They're all gone except for McCarron

Noah Juulsen (2015)
Mikhail Sergachev (2016)
Ryan Poehling (2017)
Jesperi Kotkaniemi (2018)

When your AHL team doesn't make the playoffs for years that will have an impact on the big team eventually. Not that it's entirely his fault but Lefebvre should have been fired a lot sooner IMO, the guy was running a country club and players never got any better playing for him.

In absence of talented new blood, Bergy had to give a ridiculous contract to Price in order to keep fans interested and to put butts in seats at the Bell Centre ... there's something wrong when your best paid player is the (frank)ing goalie.

This absence of talent also explains why they traded for Drouin ... a French-Canadian so-called "star" surely can't hurt ticket sales.

Habs used to mean excellence, now they're just trying to manage through a crisis they've created by their own incompetence ... as for Timmins, I'm amazed he still has a job.

TLDR: our bad drafting/development has caught up with us.

Kristo was a second round pick. Habs traded their 1st round pick that year to acquire Alex Tanguay.

They also traded a lot of 2nd round picks. And yes, it seems that Lefebvre wasn't able to develop any players and was there way too long.

Yeah, the move surprised me too back then.

From what I've heard, Gainey and co didn't like his attitude. Guy didn't seem to care all that much.

Too bad because he was a very talented player.

I believe Bouillon did play injured when Gainey asked him to. Which aggravated his injury.

And then Gainey rewarded him by not offering him a contract for the next year.

Meh... he was better than Houle or Gauthier in my book.

But yeah, not so great.

He did bring in Kovalev though.
