we realize watching this series how far, how very far Habs are from that level.
they're propably missing 3 top forwards and a super top d.
patience!

I don’t think they’re that far off...if Carolina and Long Island can make the playoffs with the teams they have and make it to the second round, so could the Habs with a couple of upgrades.

Yep ... you can thank all those 1st round draft picks that haven't panned out in the last 10 years (see below) for that.

Danny Kristo (2008)
Louis Leblanc (2009)
Jared Tinordi (2010)
Nathan Beaulieu (2011)
Alex Galchenyuk (2012)
Michael McCarron (2013)
Nikita Scherbak (2014)

They're all gone except for McCarron

Noah Juulsen (2015)
Mikhail Sergachev (2016)
Ryan Poehling (2017)
Jesperi Kotkaniemi (2018)

When your AHL team doesn't make the playoffs for years that will have an impact on the big team eventually. Not that it's entirely his fault but Lefebvre should have been fired a lot sooner IMO, the guy was running a country club and players never got any better playing for him.

In absence of talented new blood, Bergy had to give a ridiculous contract to Price in order to keep fans interested and to put butts in seats at the Bell Centre ... there's something wrong when your best paid player is the (frank)ing goalie.

This absence of talent also explains why they traded for Drouin ... a French-Canadian so-called "star" surely can't hurt ticket sales.

Habs used to mean excellence, now they're just trying to manage through a crisis they've created by their own incompetence ... as for Timmins, I'm amazed he still has a job.

TLDR: our bad drafting/development has caught up with us.

I meant making it past the 2nd round.
and this year is different, like very unusual.

I'll give you Domi Gallagher and Tatar as legit top6. we all know Danault would be a perfect 3rd C, on a good team. Drouin pass, all the others pass too. that makes 3 forwards, missing 3 more. imo

wait a few years, Poehling and kk could be 4 and 5, still missing 1. and that's in 2 years!!
and then there's the dcore....
