For some reason the media we get here are from elsewhere , and were never Canuck fans. so when the constant negativity and bashing never ends , it 's not from a long suffering Canuck fan view , but from a "see what you do wrong and I told you" so whiny negative narrative to seem relevant and get noticed.
And the few that are from here , talk at you like their opinions are fact and they know better.

I think, generally speaking, we’re too hard on the media guys. They are paid to offer opinion, and some of them are paid by companies who have contracts with the Canucks.
Funny story, I have a buddy who is a radio DJ and one day he went off on a rant about how ugly and stupid the Nissan Cube was. Turns out the local Nissan dealer was a customer (they paid to advertise on the station). Anyway, he had to go on the next day and apologize to Nissan, and to the station, and basically admit he was a dumb ass to the world.
I like most of the guys on 650, they generally have an opinion, sometimes they sugar coat things, but I get why. There is one guy who just seems not to get it, who offers up some stupid take and is constantly getting shot down. I won’t say who it is, because he will probably read this tomorrow - 1970vintage
Yes and no. Many of the media types are so negative to their own teams' markets they bring alot of it on themselves. Now having said that much of that negativity is warranted, but in Botchford terms it was over the top alot and it caused more problems than it solved.
Still feel for his family though. Never wish that on anyone even though I didn't agree much with his writings.
Good story on the radio DJ my buddy was a local radio celebrity here in RD and one of the reasons he ended up leaving were those situations exactly. Was getting to the point where you can't say spit on the radio then have to apologize for it on air five times the next week.
I get that advertisers get pissed but man up a bit...snowflakes..lol |

When TSN lost the rights to the Canucks they changed their format. They would not survive with just reporting. They sort of needed to be the yin to the yang. Almost immediately they went from being reporters to watchdogs. Someone on here even predicted this would happen the day they lost the rights.
Some guys went too far like Pratt Patterson and I include Botch. In a way they were very good at doing what they did (rallying the troops to riot).
I found Jeff Patterson reaching too far. Like finding negative stats like Burrows hasn't had an assist in 15 games that he wore the stick in rink jersey. I mean cmon enough already.
Botch did his job well, it definitely was a style I didn't enjoy but he was the best at rallying the troops.
He must have had a lot of stress with that position.
By the way the Cube should not be considered a car . It is effin ugly. |

Remember Sports Page on CKVU, Channel 13, or when Neil McCrea was in his prime...man those were the hockey days.

Replace advertisers with fans. Who gives a sh!t what other people think especially media.
Crying about mean media every day here borders on pathetic.

I still miss it.
Mcrae like the sound of his on voice too much, was never a fan. He was the one who labeled the Sedins "the sisters". |

Old Neil was the master. Many media tried to copy his style. You really do make quite a rich living being an bumhole. Pratt admitted many times he embraces the hate because that puts a roof over his head.
I remember many times joking on Twitter about his dumb comments and he always sent back a LIKE. He knew if people were talking about him he was getting a paycheck. |

An East Indian friend of mine used to phone-in on that show regularly.
He would put on a heavy accent and ask some pretty tough questions.
It was usually very entertaining listening to them respond, without breaking out laughing. |

Best episode ever was Don Taylor slipping up and saying Mighty Dikes. Couldn’t stop laughing the rest of the show! |

Late to the party...massive layoffs at work
But....
Contrary to some other people in here, I truly was entertained by Botchford. Loved his personality. His columns were always a must read. Even engaged in some back and forth with him on Twitter.
I real sad day. I felt like I knew him and am still shocked. Heartbroken for his family.... |

I was thinking late 70's, early 80's, my first TV in 78 was a 20" Electrohome colour TV, with 13 channels on a dial....yup I actually had to get up and manually change the channel...the tough times back then would make millennial's cringe. - Makita

A 47 min podcast on Sportsnet titled all about Brock Boeser has literally 2 min of Boeser talk. The rest of it is hype over speculations.

He punched a guy in the back of the head, from behind and then ran away. He’s a gutless puke and 100points or not, I wouldn’t want him on my team. I think he just cost his guys the series. If I were on his team I would rally the guys, beat the crap out of him in the shower and leave him in a bloody naked pool and then take everyone else out for dinner - 1970vintage
I would take him on my team in a heartbeat. |
