Eliminate the cap
The underlying issue imo is that the league has too many weak markets and/or cheap owners. Address that and the cap ceiling can proceed to rise at a healthy rate and the market will likely correct itself.
Unfortunately we know this won't happen because the NHL likes to focus on expanding more than actually doing what's best for the league. - hereticpride
I think they should do an NBA type of thing and let teams exceed the cap by a certain % to resign their own players. That is where I would start.

If you can get a 1st rd pick with him say at 25% retention for not much going back Not the worst idea.

Nah.
The idea is to spread the wealth around, right? If you maintain the hard cap but eliminate ELC's, teams are going to have to be more dilligent in who they spend their money on.
Big Contracts become more risky because they'll eventually start getting in the way of your ability to acquire young talent. There'll be fewer big contracts handed out to older guys, with more going to younger players based on what you think they can do. |

I think Ghost is a lot better at distributing the puck, Dougie's a lot better at shooting it.
Ghost spends an awful lot more time on the PP than Dougie though, and gets a lot of his assists there. - BINGO!

If a player is so bad that a team is willing to deal a 1st to move him, eat salary on him AND take on AMac's buyout penalty then why should we have any interest in him?
I'm sorry that's an insane ask. Turn the tables on the deal. Would you give that up/take on all that just to rid yourself of a contract? - hereticpride
Then U tweak the deal. Maybe no retention; whatever.
Just because they want to move Him doesn’t mean he can’t play or help another team
Depends on what my plan for the summer was and who I knew I can sign so yes I may do it to rid myself of his contract. They just Acquired a dman who would likely be a first rd pick now so that may ease the sting of giving up there later pick. |

Lets just retract back to the Original Six. Unlimited payrolls. Every game will be Olympics quality.
All the other markets get to join a revamped minor-pro feeder circuit (including Philly) |

The cap is based off of revenue, not how much money the owners spend. Weak markets I agree affect the cap. Expansion greatly helps the league. The fees paid by expansion teams go to the team and the players don't get any of it. It's big time cash flow into the league.

If there’s one team in the playoffs we could quickly become, I kinda envision the Flyers becoming the present version of the Blue Jackets in the near future. No real superstars but good depth, good top six centers, good defensively and great goaltending.
Can’t wait for Fletcher to start work. |

Yahoo put out their first mock draft. Another mock that has is taking Krebs, who is described as a 200ft playmaker so have fun with that guys. They say he's speedy too but he's not really sounding like a guy I'd be excited about very much. They have Caufield going a spot ahead of us to Vancouver...
If Caufield is on the board at 9 I think I gotta call Anaheim and take a shot on that kid. At aceetian pint you gotta take some risks and we already have a number of center prospects that I don't really see Krebs being a huge improvement over. |

The league is literally (frank)ing perfect right now
Perfect hard cap system
Awesome parity
Great playoff system. I love the division battles
OT and a shootout. No ties. I hate (frank)ing ties
The league is about as close to perfection as it gets. The arbitrary hearings and suspensions being the one big issue

That sounds about right. If they gets the DOPS figured out it would be great. Would like all game worth 3 points but that screws up the parity. The league wknt go for it and the GMs are who pushed for the loser point. |

The shootout has and will continue to blow. 3 point games decided by a gimmick is lame.
I really don't like the scheduling format. They killed
some good rivalries now that we have to see every team twice. Remember how great our games were getting with Boston a few years back?
DOPS is an absolute tire fire. Poor officiating can't be overstated either. |

Need consistency with both calls and suspension. I don't care for the shoot out either. I don't see that changing though. Need to fix the calls and suspension though. Also those phantom high sticking calls when a player gets hit by a teammate really suck. The whole arena sees it on the big screen and the refs can't use it. Should be reviewable. |

I would be on board with 1 through 8 going 1-8 2-7 3-6 4-5. Then reset after the first round. If they want to keep east west separate til.the final. |

The playoff system WAS perfect, when the highest available seed always played the lowest available seed and they reseeded after every round. |
