The mental gymnastics is hilarious.

Comparing Burns to Risto.

That’s like saying give Larsson 80% O zone starts an watch him become Bergeron

This is a good example of ugly cock

A pissed off Risto can go a few different ways. I think we saw disinterest for most of the second half.

second half of the year, or decade?

Brent Burns is a 33 year old converted F.

Risto is 24 with all the ability in the world to be an elite all-purpose defenseman. When he's playing his best hockey, he is the Sabres best defensive option (admitted that it's a horrendous group). This thread doesn't die because we all see the potential, and then experience the frustration.

This can definitely be debated.
His hockey IQ is poor at best.

if you could swap risto for another d man even up and have them for the next 3 years

how many d men would you make the swap?

20?40?
60?
80?

my guess would be somewhere between 40 and 60

- homiedclown

80 at the very least. Does this include prospects?

If your frame of reference is current salary and usage, I take more than half the league. If you can adjust his salary and ice time to something more appropriate, I would say maybe 30% of the league.

Burns played RW 03/04, 05/06, and 13/14.

He was 18 and 20.

Played RW in 13/14 because they had too many NHL defensemen in SJ.

He was converted to D a long time ago.

I agree, and I'm on the trade Risto train. As long as he's here, coaches aren't going to be able to resist over-using him.

He’s the bigger physical defensemen version of Tyler Ennis.

It can look great. It amounts to almost nothing positive as a whole

All that says to me is that our defense has been ass for many years and has been completely neglected. "We need to play Risto less" *Proceeds to not play Risto less*

It’s Tyler Myers/Dion Phanuef. Literally exact same scenario.

Look great as rookies
Struggle on bad teams
Fail to ever get better
New coaches GM’s talk about how they need to reduce their role
Trade them

A conversation with Risto and Burns is not comparable to a conversation with Larsson and Bergeron.

Don't go there. Risto really has all the tools. Size, speed, strength, athleticism, great shot. Ennis has half of those. Stafford had most of those, he was almost as frustrating.

I mean, it’s definitely an exaggeration, but it’s beyond ridiculous to mention Risto and Burns in the same sentence

No, 2 ground ups, 7 story and 6 story. One in alphabet city, the other in East Village.

Again, the purpose of the comparison is a demonstration of how to use an offensive defenseman correctly

Plus they both kind of suck at defense. Risto walked Burns this year. Good times

Take it easy man, the subway bed project is the only one I know they have down there.

By this I mean quite literally they are providing the pilings that will be used on the foundation of a subway rail

He’s one of those guys that just needs a change of scenery.

He’s been in a loading situation for far to long and wasn’t properly developed.

He’ll flourish once he leaves here.

His great shot has amounted to being 68th in D men in goals over the past 3 years despite top 10 ice time and PP time.

It looks cool when his stick breaks though
