I know it's unlikely, but would a trade of Nylander for either Johnsson or Kapanen from Toronto work? Who would say no? Leafs don't really have money to resign these guys and having Willie there might be an incentive. Plus, Alex is pretty cheap for two more years. Buffalo would get a player further along in their development that could help right away. Heck, add McCabe and trade for both.

I hope nobody takes any salary from the leafs and they’re forced to trade Marner. Even if they trade Marner, I don’t think they can afford to fill the 7 roster spots they have to fill without trading away someone else. (frank) them.

Any and all personnel decisions will include the 2021 expansion draft. Guys on the team today requiring protection:

Eichel
Skinner
Reinhart
Mittelstadt
Dahlin
Montour
Risto
McCabe
Ullmark

Thompson
Smith
Olofsson
Asplund
Nylander
Pilut
Borgen

- TheSabresTaco

Thankfully we don't have 7 forwards worth protecting

The Sabres protected Okposo last time. Gross

Is McCabe average? Honest question. I used to think he was, now I think he's below average.

Adds some value to the team, but a medium/long extension feels like a mistake. Keep it to 1-2 years. We already have cheap, internal third pair LD replacements available, and more coming.

In two years, if we don't have 7 forwards worth protecting, we're looking for another gm and coach.

Dahlin-???
McCabe-Montour
Pilut-Bogo
Scandella
Hunwick

Risto for a forward or 2, the late first for Dahlin's partner, sign a couple of people, and see if you can get someone to bite on a package of leftovers (Nylander, d prospects, some of next year's picks) for another forward.

This Dahlin partner, as a #2 Dman, right-handed no less, for even the 19th pick?
(but could very well be late 20's)
Who is that? Who would ever trade that to them?
I think you waaaaay overvalue that pick.

The late first could be a starting point, add as needed. We did get montour for a late first and a prospect. It’s not unrealistic in that regard.

Pilut has. Ideally, you wouldn't expect more than 3rd pair from either of them.

If it's just a steady, non-flashy guy, then it's plausible. If we're talking about Trouba, then you're right

And once teams figured him out he struggled. I don't think Buffalo has the structure to be throwing them to the wolves

I’d move Scandella before McCabe. If we move McCabe and keep Scandella we better be getting a young forward like Burakovsky back for him. He can be a cheap 3rd pairing d-man for us that kills penalties and plays the body. I like him but he isn’t immovable.

Sure, as a package to acquire a decent piece...like Montour, a #4...but I believe Guhle was the more valuable asset in that deal, by far.

By its' own for a #2-RhD....? Smoking crack, sorry.

No brainer on McCabe. Keeper for sure

Lets assume the following:

Everyone returns next season.

-We still only have 2 solid D pairings.
-We only have one proven center
-We don't currently have a single proven top 6 LW
-We only have one proven top 6 RW,
-That gives us one solid NHL line
-We don't have a clear cut starting goalie
-We don't have a coach

If there was ever a time to blow things up it is now

This is assuming no Skinner since he is not signed

Who?
Conceptually on a Blog, or NHL 19 sure.
Real world, who is this player?
Maybe an old vet with 1 or 2 years left...Girardi type.
Piss poor asset management.

That doesn't make any sense. If Guhle was worth more than a first, then we would have traded Guhle for a 1st

Right. I'm a big Guhle fan, but both Montour and the 1st are worth more than him.
