Interesting numbers, but here's the question I need to ask:

For all the guys who look like they got a boost from playing with Marner, how much of that can be attributed to the fact that they were also playing with Tavares?

Reading the article, it doesn't sound like Erskine was driving.

The driver of the pickup truck didn't have major injuries.

Erskine has severe injuries.

I don't disagree but.... this year aside.... if there's one thing you can expect from Subban... it's to raise his game during the playoffs.

Something the Leafs desperately need imo.

Just ask Boston how they feel about him.

- Scabeh

If this is true, then no way Nashville lets him go. Just look at the difference he's made in the last two play-offs.

If Marner wont sign it will have to go as lond as he holds out
- senstroll

If he signs, he'll be loved forever, if he holds out, he's Nylander 2.0..

What a market.

These numbers don't pass the eye test.

Anybody who watched the Leafs play regularly saw Marner create easy goals for Tavares. It's not like Marner gave the puck to Tavares in the neutral zone and then he deked by everybody and put it top corner 50 times. In fact, Marner usually did a lot of the hard work most of the time.

What's that saying Joe Bowen used to say all the time? Figures don't lie, but liars figure?

I don't want Subban, just because of that stupid (frank)ing hat.

Forgot to add his nickname. Side show Bob. Kadri already has that base covered.

I agree, and I'm not looking forward to JT in about 4-5 years. He seems to really have to work to get his big ass going out there.

In his last couple years, guys in here are going to be wishing for Patty M. to unretire.

I went with what the poster said.

But that could still be true and that's why he wasn't driving.

Didn't seem to help though.

I'm not too worried about Tavares in the future.

Unless Marner isn't beside him when he's 35.

something like that... I don't think he deserves more than Kucherov or Stone.. I think he'll get between 9M-10M
- PatC80

I think the article pins him in a decent area - @ 9.2 or so. I think more than that causes even larger problems than they already face.

I'm saying the same thing as everyone else here, but I mean, really, no matter how you run the numbers, unless the Leafs can trade Zaitsev and replace him with Sandin (which Babcock will hate because then he would have 0 RHD), or unless Marleau folds his cards and retires allowing his rights to be traded . . . I don't know.

I'm assuming Brown is traded which gives you room to sign Marner @ $9.2, and then there's $800k for Kapanen and Johnsson.

Now I am in the keep-Kadri camp because his upside @ 4.5m is still very valid for a 3rd line centre, and losing him exposes our third line and weakens our 1st line by putting Nylander there.

We need about $5.5m to keep both Johnsson and Kapanen, so it's going to have to be Zaitsev who goes, I would imagine.

FFS, are we now concerned about the 7th year of Tavares contract? 1 season into the deal, we're worried about the 7th year now?

His contract is one that needs to be monitored closely for sure. I fear the same thing. Don't keep him too long. Got to have the Sam Pollock touch on this one. Move him for assests in a couple years . Got to keep the pipeline flowing.

I love JT, but his skating isn't his strongest part. He'll be fine, a little worried about the last couple years, but with 3 or 4 cups we won't care as much.

Marner at 9.2M is a win for both sides, IMO. Leafs get him at a good number and he gets close to Kucherov money.. I hope that is where he comes in at..

I don't see a way we can keep both Kap and Johnsson, unless one of Kadri/Nylander gets moved.

5-6-7 maybe, not worried. Just bored of the Marner/Nylander sucks and are overpaid and the coach has to go and Patty M. is old etc etc etc.

I'd ALMOST bet my left nut that he's a Leaf for life now.
