Trading marner would be a horrible move.
Not gonna happen unless he leaves the leafs no absolutely no choice.
Which i dont believe it will get to that. - Fakepartofme
I think just slightly under Matthews....maybe 6 x 10 or 5 x 10.5. Somewhere in that neighborhood. But, make no mistake. There is a sect of the Leaf base that truly are expecting long term at 8 or 9. Most are realistic and know it HAS to come in 10 or more....and 6 years or 5. It just struck me funny today when I heard this guy talking about the "Home-town" discount of 8 million or so Marner was surely gonna do.
(Cuz I surely know...Kane and Toews didn't discount us several years ago....lol) - hawk35
I doubt he gets much more than 10 if he stays a Leaf. 9.5 is totally reasonable. For at least 6 years.
How much do you think Rantanen and Point are getting?
Cause neither are from Chicago. So no hometown no? - Fakepartofme
But, I didn't say "Hometown" when referring to them. But, in the same breath....Tavarez didn't give much of a "Hometown" discount...despite the bedsheets. Just saying....except for guys at the very end of their careers....you don't see players in the prime of their careers taking a shave for the teams interest. At least we haven't seen it yet. Maybe Marner starts the trend.

Well leafs have done alright with matthews out of the line up.
Short term
But i dont want to trade either.
Unless mcjesus is coming the other way. - Fakepartofme
Yeah, obviously, try to keep both. And obviously trade Nylander before both of them. But they'd probably be better off keeping Marner over Matthews if it ever came down to that.
But if Matthews gets you legit help on D, it's not the end of the world either. Imagine a Matthews level player but on D. That'd help a lot.

Jt was offered more money per by other teams. This was reported

Think yesterday someone posted an athletic article in here about Point's next contract and it was projecting somewhere between 7.5-8.5 which is absolutely ludicrous.. he put up similar numbers to Marner and was also considered a top 10 centerman this year.. also a better goal scorer. But some how Marner is being projected to make 11-12 million on his contract.
Ive said before and say again. AM and willie are overpaid by 600gs, marner will be too. 10 - 10.6 - Fakepartofme
I loved the Dangle idea of signing him for 9.95 so it seems like he signed at a discount. Everyone will look at it as 9+ instead of 10 which it basically is, just like things at the store priced at 9.99 lol. Then all Leafs fans continue to love him for taking such a wonderful discount and he gets even more endorsement deals and commercials. The end.

Its because of AM's contract. Why would marner take millions less than matthews?
Not the medias fault

Toronto media are all little children acting out for attention from their parents. They learned years ago that they get more attention from being stupid little poops spewing negative crap than they did when they actually reported facts and reasonable opinions, so they continue to act out like a little child and are rewarded with attention from us fools.

Tampa Bay tax discount. Same as Kucherov. And Stamkos. And the rest of their players.
If Kucherov got 9.5 for 100+ points and Stamkos got 8.5 for 60 goals, Point will get 7-8 for 40 goals.
Point also had two much weaker seasons before this one.

Kane and toews were underpaid on their second contracts so they made up for it on the new ones. You got 3 cups while on a discount from them.
