Have you done any homework on how players get paid more for primary assists compared to secondary? Or how people with the same number of primary assists get paid the same as those with the same amount of goals?
I doubt it. You're talking out of your ass. - Thecakeisalie
Only McDavid and Kucherov had more.
Marner's in special territory and he's going to get paid like it.
Stop kidding yourself. |

He needs to retire. Enough is enough. He got his chance, he got his money, he's finished. It's over.
The Leafs D next year shouldn't be any better than it was last year. - JohnFergusonJr
Probably, but he’s not. So I’m not going to waste my energy worrying about it. Going to cheer for the sum female dog and hope he has a good year. |

Nylander is. - Arctic_AARDVARK

I might just have to stay away from these boards until Marner is signed because seeing Leaf fans actually ponder four firsts for Marner, that is just beyond anything. I can't even. - Zezel
and all those 4 1st round picks could very well be in the mid/late 20's - not exactly a given that any of those turns out to be an elite player... |

Nope because Leafs know not to trade young players when their value is at it's lowest. Terrible asset management. |

He needs to score 35/40 next year to get back in the good books.

I think the book is out on Nylander. Other teams know he’s highly skilled but he’s a bad year because he missed the first 1/3 of it.
But if you have any ideas on how the Leafs are going to be able to fit Mitch and Austons salary under the cap, we’d love to hear it. |

It's not gonna happen. Marleau will be on the team next fall.
It'd be helpful if he'd take a trade to 'Zona or something, but I just don't see it happening. Pretty sure he's stated that he plans on playing next year already. And he's got an NMC or NTC or some such. Whether we like it or not, I think he'll be a Leaf next year. |

Trade Connor Brown and Zaitsev instead of Nylander. |

You were just suggesting assists were as good as goals when it comes to salary negotiations. Now you've moved the goal posts to primary assists.
It's common knowledge that goals > assists when it comes to salary negotiations.
I've never heard anyone say that primary assists suddenly is worth the same as goals. Where did you get this from? Is there any evidence to back this up other than your own negative opinions? Now you're spouting something about Kuch or McDavid? |

Z’s Contract isn’t too bad, Marleau’s going to hurt a bit. It’s not like we didn’t know it was going to take some time to win a cup.

Problem is, you get next to nothing for those two. Zaitsev is an anchor of a contract too.
Nylander, at least, you can get something good coming back. Something that can actually help. |

Think yesterday someone posted an athletic article in here about Point's next contract and it was projecting somewhere between 7.5-8.5 which is absolutely ludicrous.. he put up similar numbers to Marner and was also considered a top 10 centerman this year.. also a better goal scorer. But some how Marner is being projected to make 11-12 million on his contract.

It's all we can do.
He WAS a great player. He's basically like all those other over the hill stars that sign with the Leafs at the end of their career. At least he supposedly is helping mentor our young guys. Sure hope that mentoring is worth all the trouble his salary is causing. |
