We want your 8th and we will throw in Virtanen. Please confirm.

Thanks Carol and yes I’m on-board with this deal if Edmonton offers their pick

Green's system is to get in quick on the forecheck and to take away time and space in every zone. Their season was lost during the 10 game slide that came while they were playing dozens of games on the road with many on back to back nights. When they don't have the energy to skate their butts off their structure falls apart. Even Benning must recognize that Lucic is not a good fit for this team, regardless of the physical presence he might add.

Edmonton needs to give big to get out from Lucic, I see no reason Vancouver should help them out at all for nothing less than a King's ransom. Right now they have to protect Lucic in the expansion draft, he eats up 7.5% of their cap, and contributes hardly anything on the ice.

This is all while they are trying to make the playoffs, so essentially he's a blackhole in their aspirations. McDavid couldnt even make him look decent enough to trade

Exactly, his system and most coaches' systems nowadays are built to rely on team speed.

Just send LE to Utica and be done with it. He'll eventually get tired of the long bus rides and go back home to Sweden.

LOL

Lucic has a NMC, forgot about that, excellent point. So he has to be protected in the expansion draft unlike LE unless he agrees to waive it(he shouldn't because it exposes him to the possibility of the AHL)

If Benning makes this trade without an amazing sweetener, he's a dumbass. I don't wanna hear the FA ownership excuse, any GM who signs off on that trade is an idiot and should be fired on the spot or just quit out of pure shame.

I like the idea of Eriksson and 10th for Lucic and 8th.
Lucics nmc gets wiped.
Couldn’t we just send him to Utica too?

His NMC only gets wiped if he agrees to wipe it for the Canucks, it all depends on the player. It's possible for him to accept a trade to Vancouver but refuse to waive his NMC with the Canucks. That's something that has to be negotiated between Benning and Lucic's agent before the trade is made.

Moving up 2 spots from 10-8 for a $6M dollar cap dump in the future when EP will be 24, Brock will be 25, Bo will be 27 sounds like something you'd regret and for what gain exactly? Seeing Lucic throw some hits for a year or 2 and get into a couple of fights as a 4th liner?

Just sign Patrick Maroon or some poop for a year or 2 instead then and you'll get the same thing without handicapping the team in the future when they'll hopefully be a legit playoff team.

Best news I've heard in a while. Although I'd prefer if Lucic went back East or just retired. I don't want to have to watch him anymore even if it is in a Nucks jersey.

I imagine Benning is going to explore that trade scenario for a multitude of reasons, and it really wouldn't surprise me if it gets done.

Lucic + 8 OA for LE + 10 OA actually seems likely.

I truly believe Lucic is probably the worst skater in the NHL/AHL.

This is the only way I would feel ok about the swap. If we moved up to 8th or took on additional pick/s. In the end, it would be weaponizing cap space so to speak without compounding disaster contracts.

I'm not a Lucic fan at all. He's a 90's knuckle dragger. I would have loved his on ice presence back in the day though. He probably would have continued to be a scorer back then as well. He now belongs in the Smithsonian.

Yea, after watching these playoffs I was definitely thinking “we just trade that slow expensive useless turd we have for an even slower and more expensive turd”

just out-slow the rest of the league, they'll never see it coming!

Was the last few games of the season where LE played with Horvat and Pearson just another one of Green's random line combinations, or were they giving him the Hodgson treatment prior to an offseason move?

How is 2 draft spots worth the extra year and less useful player?

I honestly would want more. Lucic's game is exactly what the league is moving away from, and that extra year on his contract is bad. At the end of the day, its really just swapping 4th liner for 4th liner. BUT, we all know Benning drafted him, tried really hard to get him when he went UFA, it wouldn't surprise me if this trade was made into reality, and I don't think anyone else in here should be either if it does indeed happen.

If I were the Nucks I would want more too.

However, if the Nucks have a very particular target that is available at 8 but likely won't be at 10 then GMs can get a little crazy with respect to valuing the 2 pick move to ensure they get their guy.

I'm just glad Carol is reporting this and not Eklund otherwise the Oil would be stuck with Lucic forever.
