but if we successfully had gotten Weber, it was after the playoffs in 2012, it was that summer, before the lockout

in fact it was a few days after Weber signed with Philly that we traded for Rick Nash, so it may have stopped that trade, we definitely would have still drafted Skjei

- jimbro83

Yeah, you're right. I always thought that contract was given out in 2011. Maybe Weber means we never get AV, and who knows how long Torts lasts.

Oh well, my original point remains. It's still fascinating to me how we have avoided the totally crippling contracts. Yes, we've seen some bad ones handed out on multiple occasions, but with all the Smiths and Shattys and we still will be in good shape in a couple seasons.

Yeah, that’s crazy. Particularly St Louis.
- Pete V

St Louis looks very solid

Pieterangelo, Bouwmeester and Parayko all three solid guys who put up major minutes

those three are absolute horses

Brayden Schenn very underrated overall player too, he has a rep of just being a powerplay guy, but he's real good all around player IMO

They need Schenn, not just from a production standpoint, but I still think it's insane they gave up two 1sts for him.

They might be a low key favorite to win it all now. They can grind it out with Boston, but can also turn it on offensively if needed.

I honestly think Carolina is going to do it. They actually look like they're having FUN while playing. And if they get everyone healthy, watch out.

Carolina would then be like the Florida Marlins of the NHL. Not a consistently good team, but a team with a couple of Championships.

Yeah, i agree. I mean because the jerks thing, they are a fun team to root for. Just remember if they win, we then live in a world where a team used to play in a mall, moved to the middle of nowhere Carolina, have been mostly bad for their existence, would have won 2 cups in 3 finals since the Rangers last won one.

I think they are going to stay good though, I'd be very surprised if they had a sell-off Marlins style

Yeah, I agree. They will be very good. Just strange to have a couple of Cups surrounded by mostly years and years of non-playoff teams. They definitely take full advantage of their opportunities.

That's a good comparison. It looks like they're doing things the right way though, and their farm system is loaded. I think they should be good for awhile.

I know this take will get a rise out of Bingo if he's lurking, but they won't ever escape the fact they play in Carolina. I generally agree, they have done everything reasonable to ensure long term success of their team. The current CBA lets them have control over their core pieces such as Aho for a number of years ensuring that this won't be their only run. The question then becomes, what happens when those guys eventually become UFAs? They will have to be extremely proactive in either locking their pieces up long term or doubling down on their scouting to ensure their prospect pipe is always flowing. Continuing the baseball theme, they will have to become the hockey version of the A's while they were still good.

The potential is there, but I think this could evaporate overnight just due to the fact of their market.

It even has a fastpass like Disney.

In reality Dallas learned they were better off tanking, they keep their 1st and get a mid pick /s

if the Rangers bring in Kravtsov, Kakko and Panarin on the wings, does Zucc fit?

I'll show you where he fits.

Kakko might play some center (this is for Tom)

Do you think he falls all the way to the WPG pick? Not sure you can land both Knight and Kakko.

I imagine you were pretty mad when the Islanders did nearly the exact scenario that you said would piss you off. (too soon?)

It doesn't matter, because we are going to draft defense there (just adding fuel to the fire)
