"McElhinney is not good enough - we'll go with the unproven guy since he's 'deserved it!!'"
- MaximusAurelius
You really are not very smart eh?
It was a case that they could only keep one of three. They kept the guy who was youngest (by a decade versus Mac), and who had just been the AHL goalie of the year en route to winning the Calder Cup.
It was a calculated gamble, and it didn't payoff. It's not like if we had Mac though we'd still be rolling in the cup. If you apply Mac's Sv% this year to the shots that Sparks faced, he'd have let in 6 fewer goals (52 vs 58) over the 20 games that he played - hardly enough to catapult the Leafs to a new height, or even make up the 7 points that we were behind the Bruins. We'd still have the third best goal differential in the League, and still would have had to beat the Bruins without home ice advantage.
This is the kind of conclusion you come to when you use facts instead of feelings, and let data drive your narrative, not the other way around |

Wedgie's the anti-me. None of our prospects deserve to play in his eyes.
It's why I'll never quite get the Muzzin trade. We have up 3 A-Grade prospects for a bloke who'll never see the 2nd round of the playoffs with the Leafs - walshyleafsfan

Meh, Max thinks dubas didn't earn his way up through hockey ladder and Hunter did.
One guy:
started at stick boy
Went on to get a degree in sports management
Became an agent
Became a scout
Became an AGM of an ohl team
Became the GM of that team
Other guy:
Bought an ohl team and made himself GM
ONe of these guys earned his way up and the other didn't. |

All of this while having a superior defense in front of him (McBackup)
But, hey, Fedorov would have kept McBackup and then the Leafs would have won the Cup this year. Maybe twice!

Edit: The one guy was also GM of the AHL team which won its first ever Calder Cup.
Sounds like one is a real Canadian representing the working man while the other is an ivy league, coastal elite.

Hunter played in the NHL, not sure his resume is: just bought an OHL team.

Not sold on Broccoli just yet.
Although I'm 99% sure he makes the team next year, as we are going to need a lot of guys on entry level contracts. |
