I honestly I think our best chance of winning the cup before Eichel’s contract expires, is by signing Eberle to 4yr x 8.5m, let Skinner walk, trade Reinhart and Ristolainen for Barzel, get ted Nolan as coach, sign leHner to 5yrs x 6.5m and then we just really have to hope that girgensons turns into the thirty goal scorer we had hoped he would be. I can’t wait for this offseason !!!!! - GErbe75ptz

Depends what happens with Columbus and Colorado but in the 17-19 range. - Pegullaville
I saw Pegs nailed it for ya
Pretty sure he’s right
I want us to grab Spencer Knight with the pick (top goalie prospect) if he’s still there
Good plan b if UPL doesn’t work out like we hope
Or could end up being 1 heck of a 1-2 punch in net & keep both goalies fresh for the playoffs
*which seems to be important in making a deep run now-a-days |

Dallas is down after 2. They look like a team playing under pressure. If Blues win this series it will be a blown opportunity. |

Well our draft position is going to come down to a Tuesday night game in St.Louis. Will we be picking 19th or in the 28-31 range. |

Looks like a game7
Guess we will have to sweat it out
Regardless of how anyone feels about the trades
Seeing ROR or Kane in the Cup would be a kick in the nuts
Watching Lehner’s success all year was bad enough
Can’t believe I’ve been cheering for the Canes & Stars... GROSS!!! |

Shouldn’t they have blown the play dead when Bishop got hurt?
StL has the lead, and scored again after
so it likely didn’t matter
But i think the whistle should still be blown with a goalie obviously hurt like that,
no matter who has the puck |

Friggin Stars choked today...they need to play much better on Tuesday.
Not good enough...does their President come out and rail on the whole team this time? |

So Landeskog, Mackinnon, and Rantenen were not apart of a team that finished dead last and got them Cale Makar two seasons ago ?
The Stars’ bottom 8 finish in 2017 led them to winning the lotto for Heiskanen.
The Canes had 9 straight years of no playoffs and turned two top 5 selections (Hanifin and Lindholm) into Hamilton and Ferland. Hayden Fleury was a 7th overall pick and they didn’t tank for Svechnikov but if they don’t miss the playoffs last year they don’t win that lotto either.
Columbus has Pierre Luc Dubois (3rd OA), Zach Werenski (8th overall), Seth Jones (4th overall acquired by trading former 7th overall pick Ryan Johansson) and Ryan Murray (2nd overall pick).
The Bruins and Sharks are the exceptions. Unless we hope to sign a hall a fame d-man in FA (Chara) and draft two elite forwards in the 3rd round and wait 4 years for them to develop. Even the Bruins used former top selections to add to their team in the form of Kessel and Seguin. - Pegullaville
How about the original tank teams?
Buffalo
Arizona
Edmonton
And even Ottawa with Brady tkachuk
Montreal moved up to 3rd overall
Florida
Detroit
Vancouver
All multiple bad seasons, no playoffs though
Tanking doesnt guarantee success, that was my point.
Out of the final 8 teams , Colorado is really the only ta ker team with success.

Bishop may have to steal one |

And with the AVs lack of depth scoring,
even they look like they need a couple more pieces before they can win a Cup |

I’d say the future in Vancouver is quite bright. Edmonton is bound to figure it out at some point. Arizona had like 12 guys get hurt this year and we’re in the race till mid March for a playoff spot. Sabres have a strong core and bright future. Florida has a strong team and should be a playoff team next season. Detroit/Ottawa still have a few more seasons left of bottoming out. |

Good thing they have a ton of cap space and another 4th OA pick on the way. |

They’re gonna need it
But to bring it back to us...
besides pick7, what “core” pieces are we bringing in???
Hayes isn’t that caliber
And neither are most (if not all) of the others that i see ppl mention they want us to sign |

Core pieces are likely only coming if they're via trades, or if young players have unexpectedly strong seasons next year. |

Lots of if's and but's, not a lot of facts though.
There is no garauantee with tanking. |

It’s as much about developing those said core players as much as it is acquiring a few more. Eichel, Dahlin , Reinhart, Mittelstadt, Montour, 7th OA, Skinner (if he resigns) is a pretty good start. Risto is a good d-man even though he has his flaws and we haven’t even come close to seeing Dahlin or Mitts’ ceilings.
Olofsson has shown promise to be a 20 goal guy at the NHL level. Nylander and Thompson have the potential to get there but have some growing pains to go through. I think apart from a #1 goalie (Ullmark still has time and UPL is is in the system and can hopefully grab this role) we have the core set for the most part. We just need a few vets who can play while the rest of the development takes place. |

I agree, I think we have 10 players in place out of 20
Eichel
Dahlin
Skinner (if)
Sam
Risto
Mitts
Erod
Pilut
Montour
Goaloffson
Ullmark

To be a legit contender, we need AT LEAST:
-2way Center that can play in both zones
-a 30goal winger, if not 2 (plus keep Skinner)
-RH defense partner for Dahlin
-Top4 LH defenseman
-(most importantly) Very good starting goalie and #2 that can play at least 25games
Maybe some of those kids develop into the above, but maybe not
We don’t seem to have ANY “sure thing” type prospects
We aren’t nearly as close as you’re making us out to be |

I agree on the 2C.
If we can’t resign Skinner then I agree we are in trouble on the wings. However if resign Skinner, between Olofsson, Smith, Nylander, and Thompson I think we are better off then some think. We have the cash to splurge on a vet or two and hope Sheary is better with improvement from Mitts in year 2 for immediate help.
This team with 25 games left had a legit chance at the playoffs with he current roster we have already. Eichel is going to take another step, Reinhart has more to give, Dahlin is going to have a statement year, full year of Montour, Mittelstadt will get better. I think McCabe can hold down the #4 spot. Pilut should be here full time next year.
Better coaching will help the special teams and defensive play as well. |

the key IMO is still addition by subtraction
girgens, lockport larry, okposo, sobotka, scandella, bogo, nelson
we need to keep 2, maybe 3 of them at most
and skinner has so much implication on this off season, more then most will acknowledge |
