Here is a list of his moves:

Sign Robyn Lehner - good move, but he was available cheap and free, and no one can claim that they could have predicted he's be the best goalie in hockey

Extend Tomas Hickey - 5/6 dman , irrelevant move.

Trade for Matt Martin - 4th liner, irrelevant move

Signed 34 year old Val Fillipula (decent move, really doesn't move the needle)

Signed Leo Komarov to a terrible contract.

Ross Johnsson 4 years (what? why?)

Tom Kunhackle signed

Lost John Tavares.

Ignoring the Robin Lehner signing, he assembled a team with 6th liners, over paid for every single one of them, and lost his best player.

The team's results were driven almost entirely by goaltending, as they had pretty brutal peripherals.

Even if you love the Islanders, I think most of Lou's moves are pretty indefensible. But the media did name him the GM of the year at the half-way mark, so what do I know?

- James_Tanner

His fault JT wore Leafs PJ’s, you truly don’t think that’s on Lou do you? He was going to TO regardless or he would have signed with the Isles long ago.

there was only one GM in the NHL that added a #1 centre and a #1 defenseman to his roster this year, and that was the guy who replaced Lou.
- idiottrolblogger

Nobody forgot. We all watched that #1C and #1D get their ass handed to them in game 7 by a team with more heart, again.

Dude, you’re so far beyond homer it’s laughable.

Everyone is a genius when they’re with the leafs and garbage as soon as they leave.......and I’ll bet, in your eyes, Dubai’s could poop in a bowl and you’d claim is was chocolate ice cream

... and you are so clouded by your Leafs hate that you continually make stupid, anti-Leafs, posts, regardless of the topic. I already pointed out some of your derp a couple weeks ago and when you doubled down with more derp, I let it go because I felt sorry for you.

Seriously, before your next post, try taking the approach that you will not say anything idiotic.

When you follow those rules, and realize that you have drawn a complete blank, then question yourself. I mean seriously question everything. You need that kind of deep introspection now.

Oh and by the way idiots, Toronto has cap problems BECAUSE of their depth.

Too many good players that they can't afford them all.

The same group of morons who went on about the inevitability of offer sheets is now chirping about the Leafs "over paying".

It would be WAY better to be a Sens fan I suppose and have plenty of cap space because they have a poopty roster, none of their good players were willing to re-sign and their farm team is abysmal.

Nylander's contract is going to prove to be dirt cheap and super team friendly. The Leafs are employing a studs and duds salary structure based on the theory that all non first liners are practically interchangeable.

So for instance, why pay a Hyman or a Brown 2.5 million when every summer there's a Tyler Ennis sitting around for free who will play for 800K ?

- James_Tanner

Mentioning Hyman like he is an interchangeable part is probably the dumbest thing
you have said WHICH IS PRETTY HARD for you because most of what you say is
hysterical . Hyman is one of their best signings. He is worth more than 2.5. And
if you consider Ennis a player who could fill the role and importance of Hyman, Wow.

Every team who are good for a few years eventually have cap problems. It's just the nature of the NHL with a cap. Players coming off ELCs need to get paid, as well as vets whose contracts are up, + FAs. GMs just have to get it right and win a cup b4 team needs to be shook up or rebuilt.

Toronto is dealing with it right now. Lucky for them their window is fully open.

Rangers are finally getting it right, it seems, after full rebuild

Isles are in a rough spot. If they don't improve next year, those new contracts over the last couple of years , ie. Ladd, komerov, leddy and boychuck , etc are gonna hurt. Also have a few players who either need to be signed or let walk. Lou gonna show what he still got this off season

Spoken like a true "helicopter baby", coddled and swaddled well into his thirties...

"If Sidney Crosby doesn't win the Hart Trophy, then there shouldn't even be awards. He is the right choice, and the only choice really."

i.e. If I don't get my way, if you disagree with me, well then I am just going to quit and go home 'cuz you're just stupid.

haha

(the problem with these types of kids that pout and go home is that they always come back wanting to play again). #stayhomeJames

JT was deciding on Toronto/Long Island the night before he signed. It was far from a slam dunk.

JT has said that once Snow was let go, that he (JT) felt that their oral agreemnt no longer applied. I smell BS buy he knew his decision long before the night prior to signing

The fact is he only told the Leafs the night before he was signing with them. He was seriously considering the Islanders.

This is a great post. He added so many expensive plugs and has to deal with so many UFAs now.
That Komorov deal shocked me.

People see results and give Lou all the credit but that team is in trouble in terms of all the work they need to do. He basically paid Trotz what he wanted and that was a huge upgrade for them.

Muzzin scores 40 points per year and for nearly a decade has been the best play driving possession defenseman in the NHL. He may not be a top ten Dman (but he might be) but certainly he is a #1 defenseman. There aren't 20 or 30 guys better than Muzzin.

He is extremely underrated.

- James_Tanner

this is why you get flamed. it's for saying stuff like this. you're completely altering the common definition of a #1 defence to support a narrative about a player that you cannot let go of. a #1 is a guy who can anchor a top pair and give you 22-27 elite minutes/night. lots of teams don't have them because there are not 31 of those guys in the NHL.

it's not possible for anyone who watched that Leaf-Bruin to series to walk thinking "damn that Jason Muzzin is one of the best in the league".

I walked away from the Leafs/Bruins series thinking Morgan Rielly was a top 5 D.
