IMO 99% coaches are about the same. You do get the occasional visionary like Bowman or Shero... but mostly they're a product of their player quality, and mostly at the mercy of their goaltending.
Trotz, Berube, etc haven't really made an appreciable difference to their teams. Isles are still bad in almost every defensive measure. The Blues shot-share and scoring chance balance have decreased under Chief. But the common thread is that they're getting astronomically good goaltending.
A full season of Hart is gonna make AV look great. - Tomahawk
Trotz came in and the team went from the worst defensive team in the league to the best defensive team in the league but you state he didnt make an appreciable difference? This is poor statistical analysis on your part at it's finest. The players deserve most of the credit but he does also for getting the buy in from the team. Shot data and scoring chance data is overrated.

Was it a coincidence that lehner and Greiss had career years for the isles together? The truth may lie somewhere in between our statements. I think strategy wise there aren’t many differences around the league, but there seems to be a lot more to it |

Hate the thought of Yeo as a head coach but I'm willing to give him a chance as an assistant. Knoblach didn't seem to bring much to the table so I don't think it's a loss by any means. - hereticpride
Not so sure.Yeo did things different and he lost players quicker then other coaches
But as AV will be headcoach I hope he knows what he is doing
Like AV a lot as he is a offensive coach but I still don't think he is the right man for the Flyers.Particularly the contract he got is wrong.
But let's hope that Carter Hart is great in first 30 games and they can play offensive fun hockey and still got time to grow defence.
GM still need to do some homework.
Expect big trade with Oilers never understood why they got Talbot and saved money for Edmonton |

What’s wrong with Alain Vigneault’s contract? Does it count against the cap? |

Another good night for Ratcliffe, 2 goals +3 and his team won 7 to 2. He has had a really terrific playoff performance.

Giroux, Voracek, JvR, Konecny, Lindblom, Hartman, Raffl, Frost. If Giroux plays wing from here on out within his career, Ratcliffe will have to beat Frost for the last wing spot. Not that I’m actually expecting Ratcliffe to make the team. |

So many want Giroux at wing and a second line center. Couturier is clearly a top six center. In my opinion, Patrick should be allowed to continue to grow within the second line center role. I would be more so looking into bottom six depth. I’m gonna be calling for Brian Boyle the next two months. With this said, Giroux playing wing or center should strictly depend on what the future holds and I think we’re over flowing at wing now.

Do you really think a .928 team SV% is sustainable?

If the Isles were somehow shutting it down around the net or something, I might buy that Trotz had something to do w/ the goalies. But they bled chances in close.
The narrative that Trotz came in turned them into this defensive juggernaut is lazy national broadcast fluff. It was all goaltending. |

Well even though they swept Pittsburgh. I wasn’t impressed and this narrative did ring true for that series. I think more credit is due to trotz. Especially if they turn back into the 1 and done capitals that we used to love |

I'm really starting to think hits to the head should automatically go to the war room for review/penalization. The refs have no continuity whatsoever. At least in theory a hub making the calls should be more consistent. - hereticpride
don't worry they will suspend him for the rest of the series |

I wouldnt mind Boyle, I think he can play some 3C. I prefer they go after a 2C or a sniper, whatever is the better deal. I dont think they can do both due to the fact they need a D

Really glad Gordon is staying with the organization. I think he has done a nice job with player development. Really like his thinking. The Phantoms have a lot of new kids coming this season and should be really interesting.
