Over at the Islander post they were saying it would cost 7 million to sign Eberle. We need some talent but that is an overpay. Ray has a tough job ahead for him. Thank god for 1OA.

Even if Ray holds off this season and waits for the expansion draft, he can snag from desperate teams then.

I don't think 7 is unreasonable, and the team is in need of talent on the wing. Eberle had a pretty down season by his standards so he might not command as much in free agency anyway.

I also don't mind trying to get younger through the org, but at some point another high talent winger is going to need to join this team to solidify the top two lines.

Agreed we neen a high end winger, but would rather overpay Panarin way more than Eberle. If you can get Eberle for under 6 OK. Otherwise pass and see what else you can get. I think next year is still a building year, so Ray has time on his side.

Since Ray can offer Jack Hughes, the better free agent wingers will line up to play here...

I don't think Ray has time on his side because he needs to re-sign Hall. While bringing in legit talent won't guarantee what Hall does stay, the team needs to show it's seriously moving in the right direction. Also, if the right player is available in free agency this year and you get him to come here, now is the time to do it. What will be available next year and who will sign is too much of an unknown. Not to mention this team has been horribly short on the Wing for years now.

Hughes is on the second line with JVR and Debrincat (Larkin is centering the 3rd) for the game today.

No idea which ones will actually hit the market, but pending UFA wingers are Eberle, Duchene (I think he has played wing as well as center), Panarin, Skinner and Nyquist. All of those guys are under 30, and I wouldn't mind seeing Ray pay the inflated UFA price for any of those guys, although Skinners injury history is a concern.

I would like to see Ray keep his 3 second round picks. There are some gems on D projected for round 2 and we desperately need to restock the cupboard on D prospects even if it's just future depth they are drafting. Smith will be in the NHL next year, which probably leaves Davies as our best D prospect and it gets real thin from there.
