Liitle and Okposo on the same team is scary. That's a bit too far for me.
- Lunaion

Is Okposo even playing next year???

I've heard LTIR thrown around for him.

The pick alone isn't worth a ton, in terms of a straight up NHL-ready player. It has significantly more value if you combine it with intelligently taking on salary. That's where the off-season gets interesting. I expect a core player to move again this year.
- Lunaion

Depends on the term associated whether we should be interested, but if we can trade that pick, take on a short term cap dump and get a prize out of it...THAT sounds like a Botts move for sure.

Yeah too long term. If that was 1 year or even 2, perhaps, But taking on a contract going through the 2023-24 season would be a mistake.

Edit: I wouldn't mind Perreault. He's awful, but only 2 years and that's the type of team that we could pillage to get them under the cap.

I'm bored so I cooked this up.

BUF gets: Trouba, Ehlers, 3rd rounder
WPG gets: McCabe, Sheary (1M retained), Nylander, late '19 1st, and '20 2nd

Scans traded for late pick.
Sobotka traded for late round pick.

Sign Skinner 6 x $8-8.5
Sign Trouba 6 x $6.75-7.25
Sign Nyquist for 4x $5.85
Sign Marcus Johansson 3 x $4M

Skinner - Eichel - Ehlers
Nyquist - MJ - Reinhart
Olofsson - Mitts - Okposo
Zemgus - ERod - Tage

Dahlin/Montour
Trouba/Risto
Pilut/Nelson
Bogo

Hutton
Ullmark

Why did I make some of these specific signings... MJ can play C/LW/RW and will not demand more than 5M. He would be a perfect candidate to be a upper level 3C when Casey improves to 2C territory. He can also slip out to a wing if an injury occurs. Ehlers and Nyquist are interchangable and LW/RW as well in case of injuries or shuffling.

Can easily swap Sam/Ehlers on 1RW/2RW or move Ehlers to 2LW and Nyquist to 2RW to keep Sam on that top RW where they performed so well.

Way too long of contracts for MJ, Trouba, Nyquist to resign Dahlin you say? Bogo/Hunwick's 7.5M coming off the books and salary cap went up 4M this year and is projected another 5M next year. Sam's bridge deal could go up too much and he could be traded if needed if depth players like Olofsson/Asplund/Rustolainen/Davidsson/Pekar can fill in the middle lines.

hopefully Skinner stays
Skinner-Eichel- ?
Olofsson- ?- Reinhart
Sheary- Mitts- ?

I am expecting Olofsson to come in and score 20 goals... I think

- mattmoulson

how about we go get someone that has proven they can score twenty and then if olofsson does too its icing on the cake..

dont give Olofosson the same treatment we gave Mitts and expect too much from him at this point. you know learn from your mistakes type of thing

I read that differently.... I read the article and said that PSGE has relinquished ownership to the NWHL. The Beauts had been the only privately owned team in the NWHL. Said that a main reason was likely because 100% of the Beauts roster was dedicated to sit out this season and the team would not have been able to ice a team any way.

Average attendance for the league is 954 per game. The Beauts averaged 1100. I feel for the players, but they don't have much leverage, and probably way overplayed their hand. Wages were between 10k-26k, which is obviously not good, but I don't think anyone is getting rich super rich off their labor. I'm guessing this ends with the league dissolving, and maybe something new starts up in a couple of years. Hockey is a niche sport, and women's hockey is a niche of a niche

Can’t they work normal jobs in the offseason to supplement their income? Once the league grows in popularity then maybe they will get paid more. Athletes back in the day had to work jobs in the off season.

I don't think WPG would ever consider this.

I like where your head is at otherwise. Think this is approaching an Ennis, Weber and a 2nd for Ovi trade scenario.

The Beauts played 16 games last season. It's hard to call it a serious professional league. I feel bad saying that.

NLL (Bandits) have other jobs - or at least most do, I assume. They play 18 games a year, and as of 2018 the pay was:

"On average, professional lacrosse players make between $10,000 and $25,000 per year, with first-year players earning $7,000 to $9,000 per year. Many athletes have full-time jobs in addition to playing lacrosse or they negotiate endorsement deals with brands to supplement their salaries."

So it seems like they made as much as men's indoor lacrosse players, fwiw

Men’s lacrosse probably draws more attendance as well I would assume.

I have argued this for a while: leagues like the NLL are pretty much a $10-20k side job with per diems. This women's league is no different until it gets enough viewership, which it probably never will. The WNBA has been hemorrhaging money for almost 3 decades now.

Yeah, it depends on how you look at it. You can either say "I'm only making $15k a year," or you can say "playing lacrosse pays my mortgage"

IMO, WPG needs to dump salary and Trouba is an RFA already making 5.5M who could request up to 7.5M. We know they have dangled him in years past and he has said "it's not his job to budget the salary cap" meaning there is no discounts coming.

Morrissey making 3.15M and is an RFA after next season. Top pairing guy.
Chiarot (their 2nd pairing guy w/ Buff) is a UFA and only at 1.35M so maybe the 3-3.5M to keep him.

Niku is their best D prospect and had 54 pts in 76 AHL games so he's jumping up.
They even have Samberg at Duluth who is an anchor stay home guy.

At least Myers' 5.5M is gone.

To me... I think they sacrifice Trouba to keep Morissey and Chiarot then add Niku as well. McCabe can easily play 2nd pairing up there and he's an RFA as well so they can negotiate their own deal.

Ehlers is heavily paid for long term but not completely producing at that level for them yet IMO. A 1st, 2nd, and 2 wingers might be enticing.

I'm not saying there aren't other teams who could offer a better package but I always look to deal McCabe/Nylander together for something.

Oh don't get me wrong. WPG will have to do something, I just think that if they packaged Trouba with Ehlers, they'd be asking for more than that from us. As you said and I agree, another team would beat that offer.

You might be able to get McCabe and Nylander flipped with an addition to get one of those guys.

Sure.. I get that.

I think we are going to see quite a bit of movement this summer and a few firesales. I think certain teams are just pinned.

Columbus maxed their budget and are going to have to pivot a lot.
Anaheim is older than all get out with bad contracts on top.
Edmonton with Holland is going to be busy.
Detroit with Stevie Y at the helm is going to be busy.
Florida with Q in place is going to change some bodies to fit his system.
Rags/Flyers/Penguins won't be happy w/ early exits/disappointing years.
Kings/Habs are usually very active no matter what.
Caps could even make a few moves after an early exit.

Then you have teams like the Jets and Leafs who HAVE to move people to sign others.

Two notes from this:

1. Columbus is going to be buyers and not sellers. They have a ton of cap space clearing up
2. All of the other teams are looking to move their older people
