Two notes from this:
1. Columbus is going to be buyers and not sellers. They have a ton of cap space clearing up
2. All of the other teams are looking to move their older people - Slump Buster
You can't just move old or bad contracts for gold... they have to come with silver lining... if that means that the Sabres take a short term bad contract but get a nice 22/24 year old kid... then that's the cost sometimes.
Very deep UFA market as well. |

I have argued this for a while: leagues like the NLL are pretty much a $10-20k side job with per diems. This women's league is no different until it gets enough viewership, which it probably never will. The WNBA has been hemorrhaging money for almost 3 decades now. - buffalofan19

How many examples of any of this happening can you think of? I can remember a lot of trades for LTIR but that's a completely different ball of wax. |

Eh, maybe. If Panarin, Duchene, Dzingel and Bob all walk, yes CLB will be buyers. If they keep 2 of them, give Werenski his raise and have to sign a starting goaltender, they don't have all that much to play with.

Would anyone offer a 1 year "prove it" deal to Derrick Pouliot? - RhinoFan
Only if he’s related to the Ben Wa balls guy. |

how about we go get someone that has proven they can score twenty and then if olofsson does too its icing on the cake..
dont give Olofosson the same treatment we gave Mitts and expect too much from him at this point. you know learn from your mistakes type of thing - SabresFaninIndiana
One of these times I hope one of these guys is good. They can't all turn into Bailey and Baptiste |

Yeah, it depends on how you look at it. You can either say "I'm only making $15k a year," or you can say "playing lacrosse pays my mortgage" - jcragcrumple
There was a behind the scenes story on some network about John Tavares, the bandits player and im pretty sure he was a teacher M-F.
Thats just how it goes in Niche sports.

He's an RFA, not a UFA.
I would offer a 1 year deal to Brandon Pirri. |

One short year ago, people were projecting them in our top 6 and complaining that they were never given a fair shot.

I could see a one year offer being appealing to a UFA. Especially if they can get TOI with Eichel or Rino. Pile up some points and move on, like Skinner might end up doing. |

There’s often a certain amount of hope/optimism for a team’s prospects. At that time, we had no other place to put that optimism. Turns out they were kinda crap, I guess. Perhaps they weren’t properly developed, but that’s difficult to know at this point. |

Development HAS to play some part. But how much is pretty debatable. As fans, do we feel better with GMTM or GMJB leading the charge of the Amerks? |

Not a bad idea to look at those types of deals for certain players. |

Totally agree. And if they work out well, the Sabres have A LOT of money coming off the books after next year. |

Sure, it plays a part. It's massively exaggerated and a very convenient excuse when a player we like doesn't work out.
If anyone says Bailey or Baptiste failed because they were developed poorly, I just roll my eyes. They both had plenty of time and NHL jobs were sitting there for both with their names penciled in. |

LOL... I love the short sighted comments like this. Like... did anything else happen in Lehner's life? Wasn't there some event that had a HUGE bearing on the man's life? Hmmmm...
You mean to tell me that ROR not playing in Ted Nolan or Bylsma's offense and getting to center a line with Tarasenko on it.... IMPROVED his offense? I'm perplexed.
oh.. and Berglund quit because he went from being a 1/2C in STL to being a 4C here. He just wanted more ice time. - JVince11
Berglund was a 3rd line LW in StL
He rarely sniffed top6 duty |

It tells you something that both remain in the AHL and the Baptiste has since been traded again in the AHL, to Toronto for future considerations |
