Not sure we have cap space unless you can find a taker for Okposo.
If we have to move #7 to get rid of him, that isn't worth it to me. The SJ/STL pick is a different story. |

Sounds fair to me. Skip Skinner, sign Karlsson. - RhinoFan
He has the largest bust quotient possibility to me. He's gonna command huge dollars through his declining years. The team that signs him will regret it fairly quickly i think. By year 3, his contract will start looking pretty bad if he's getting the $10+ we all think he will. Imho of course |

In a pass happy NFL one has to wonder the numbers guys like Rice, Reed, Brown, Moss, Carter, Monk, Largent, Lofton, etc would put up? - dadeadhead
They would put up slightly better numbers but the talent level has risen, too, on both sides of the ball. There are more options for a QB now too. |

There is absolutely enough room for both. If you can move opkoso (cant) or scandella and bogosian, there is room for even more. A lot of cap is coming off the books |

Thought you were ready to throw caution to the wind to improve and trade #7?
I don't watch regular season WC games. I have watched the playoffs. He has been an absolute beast IMO.
I'd certainly want a doctor to look at both his ankle and groin to see if there is major concern. If he's falling apart, I'll take Gardiner, he gets poop on by the Leafs and is a solid middle pairing guy. |

For this season you are right. If Mitts, Reinhart and Dahlin have good seasons, which I expect all of them to take large steps, that cap space will get eaten quickly. |

I am ready to go there, but I am lower than most on Karlsson. Hot take, but I'd rather spend the money on a defensive defenseman. I don't think he's that great at actual defense, and I think Ottawa used up 80% of his best years. I said the same thing about JT in Toronto. By year 4, I think they'll regret it. We'll see though. |

That's fair. I saw a highlight from him at the start of the regular season, he basically couldn't pivot because his groin was in shambles. If he's spent a physical would tell me enough to make a decision on whether the risk was worth it.
Time will tell. |

Trade 7, no. Sign a big free agent, yes.
Edit: Botts has to know a bottom 5 finish probably gets him promoted to fan. I think you're going to see some big changes by next year. |

Maybe. Rice had a bunch of targets already. As did Moss. I'd assume the other guys as well. For reference, AB has had two seasons over 180 targets, all others around 150. Moss had 1 and another in 170, Jerry was steady at 150 targets per. I think what would influence it the most is PI calls and general DBs playing not as physical. - SDSabre
From 92-04 (13 seasons), he had 7 seasons 139 or better. One season of those was 170, 5 seasons of 150-153, 4 seasons of 122-125, 1 season of 64(his last), and 1 season of 8 (blown knee).

How would it be horrible .
a first line center / 2nd center that can take pressure off Casey and spread scoring around is a good idea and only 1 year older then skinner - gerbe75pts
Bc he’s not gonna be a 70point guy behind Jack
He’d likely revert to the 55ish point guys he’s been almost his whole career
Can’t pay 9mil per for that
Not in the Salary Cap age |

Signing Karlsson will end in a disaster he is already on 1 leg already and continues to get injured I remember the days where Karlsson was fast and now his defense is atrocious |

Yeah, I agree, Botterill will not be trading 7. I think he should, but that's not my choice. He will have to fix the roster some other way if he is unwilling to trade that pick. As for FA, i think his top spend on a FA is $2.25m, so we don't know much about whether he's willing to spend. So far, he's gone bargain fishing, not big game hunting |

Duchene avg 77.25 gp per season @ 58.13 points
Skinner avg 76.99 gp per season @ 51.48
One is a center one is not.
Centers are easier to move no matter contract compared to wingers. |

Sorry, but you do not know that.
He has not gotten a lot of reward from the bargains he's signed. His butt is on the hot seat. He will do whatever he can to make this team competitive next year. |

I think he'll spend more than that, but is very leery of long terms.
If he starts taking big risks, it's a sign that there's more pressure on him than we think and if/when it doesn't work out, he's gone anyways.
