Do you really think Babs is a big enough POS to do that to a hall of famer? He's a Leaf, he will play, he isn't going anywhere. And Dubas knew this when he negotiated the contracts he negotiated. - aminnes
It's his job to put out the best team and Marleau isn't part of that anymore.
Dubas didn't give him that contract. |

Blah blah Marleau sucks punt his ass.... see how easy that is?! I can do that shyte too!
Fact is you don't like Marleau and want him gone. Time will tell but I wouldn't be getting my hopes up. You just might be female doging and dissapointed all next season when he is still here. - Roadrunner75
If players loved him so much, why didn't he stay in San Jose?
Players move on. |

How do you know he isn't in Dubas' plans? And even if he isn't, you think it makes sense to sit the guy? Who are they calling up that will be a better replacement? |

And Babs wanted him. Said so right away. He knows the guy. Coached him internationally. |

Marleau isnt the guy leaving. He definitely will not be run out of town by management. I would put the likelihood of him on the opening day roster at 90%. |

He's finished and his cap hit hurts the team.
If Dubas is doing his job right, he's the #1 guy to move.
All they have to do is tell him they want to move on and find a suitable place for him to play. He still gets all his money and he can still have a chance to play for a Cup somewhere else. |

How do you know he is?
On the ice, he's not good enough anymore. Off the ice, his cap hit sucks.
It absolutely makes sense to sit him in favor of better, younger, hungrier players.
The Leafs have plenty of Marlies who can eat up 3rd and 4th line minutes at 700K. |

He is also doing his job by working around it. If he can fit everyone under the cap and only give up the likes of Zaitsev and Brown. Why not?
You also know Horton is on the cap still right? Sure they can LITR him but then they dont really build up cap space for the deadline. I bet he would be moved first.
You wont build any credibility of your word if you throw guys overboard as you suggest. Which will hurt the leafs in negotiating deals.
I do believe it would be ideal but fans shouldnt be expecting it |

I don’t know if he’s going or not. But I don’t think babs cares about his legacy. See modano, mike. With 1499 career games played because babs healthy scratches him the last game of the season/ his career |

Sitting him in the press box means his cap hit is still there. So sitting him for a plug makes zero sense. Marleau is still good for 15 maybe 35 points. If lucky maybe 20 goals. Lets' say he finishes weakly with 12 goals and 13 assists. Why would you sit him in the press box? He isn't scoring, but he isn't really a liability defensively. You guys are all just desperate because you know they will have zero cap space and are trying to wish him away.
If Dubas pushes him out he will look like a total wiener and make it harder to sign FAs in the future. If by some miracle some team would take his salary it would be 100% on Marleau's terms. He still lives in San Jose basically as he still maintains a home. That means he is likely only interested in going back to the Sharks to retire if anywhere. Do the sharks have a spot for him in their lineup if the Leafs don't?
All these other teams like Carolina for example. Why would Marleau be in their lineup over the Leafs? So Marleau is going to willingly go to somewhere he has never been to sit in the press box? Get buried in the minors? I would like to think he has more self respect than that. |

Because Zaitsev is still more useful than Marleau as a RHD (the only one they have).
Horton being on the LTIR still screws up the Leafs cap. They have many RFAs they need to re-sign, all of them younger, better players than Marleau.
Dubas didn't sign Marleau, Lou did.
The Leafs lose zero credibility because UFAs sign to A) win and B) to get paid. Trading Marleau in year 3 doesn't make a single bit of difference to future UFAs. |

Depends what they want to do on the back end and who you believe in terms of how much $$ Marner, Johnsson, and Kapanen will get.
Hypothetically ....if Marner gets 9.5, Kapanen 3.0, and Johnsson 2.5 they probably have to move two contracts. They'd be about $1.7 over the Cap with a defenceman to add.
Marleau doesn't sound like he's going anywhere ...NZ sounds like a long shot and they'd probably have to eat money and replace him meaning are the savings even worth it? Maybe ...
I don't Kadri being dealt. Nylander would equate to instant cap freedom b/c of his $$ but I think they only do it if they get a deal they can't refuse.
Brown is the easiest to move. You replace him with a min. wage earner and you've saved about $1.2.
I think the easiest route is likely that Brown and one of Kapanen/Johnsson get moved. That'd leave them with about 3.5 to sign a dman and 3rd line fwd.
Maybe toss some 1 yr performance bonus laden deals at a couple of 35+ types to fill in those holes.
- The Law
Nylander + Zaitsev + Horton's contract (1 yr left)
Ceci + Jaros + 2nd round pick + Wolanin
or
Nylander
Ristolainen + Tage Thompson
Johnsson to CBJ
Josh Anderson
or
Johnsson and Holl to EDM
Adam Larsson

Why for being right? Marleau is NOT going anywhere. Time to get over it. It ain't happening. Bottom line unless he retires he will be here next year, likely third line BUT... - Roadrunner75
Even if he retires, he'll still be here cap wise.
best thing if for the Leafs could buy him an island |

Marleau is fine on the 3rd line for one more year. There's really no reason to think that someone from the Marlies can come in, jump onto the third line and play a solid 2 way game the way he does. He still has decent speed and experience, unless a Marlie can come in and legit outplay him for that spot, he's fine for one more year. |
