I never understand why people get so attached to players. I loved Travis Hamonic but when he got traded for a 1st and two 2nd's I was over the moon. - Harambe
everytime I get into a quarrel with somebody hockey related online it's 99% of the time based around the fact that people can't get over players leaving and I don't care one bit about players leaving, the other 1% is with Tom.

Or do we trade the Russian goalie and make Gerogie the guy - TPC
You can't. Georgie's ceiling IMO is NHL starter. Shesty's ceiling is elite. There's no way you can trade a possible elite guy unless you get some crazy return. I maintain goalies don't really get much value. They never have historically.
He is. Personally, I wouldn't be against keeping both of these young goalies and taking two shots at the dart board as to which one is going to turn into a rock solid starter. But, that's hard with Hank around for another two years. - Pete V
the goalie controversy doing it this way could be a disaster
you are going to people clamoring for Lundqvist
he's still capable of playing insane on any given night
he'll shut out Florida or somebody and people will be like (frank) YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SAID HE'S DONE!
and in the meantime the Russian goalies wont develop properly
bottom line, when Lundqvist got here in 2005, he was 23 years old and played 53 games immediately, they didn't let Kevin Weekes or Al Montoya stand in the way

I am not so sure we know either's ceiling yet. What we do know is Georgie's floor seems a lot higher

Hey, I loved Hayes, but I thought the return was fair. I still think it opened a hole in center that they need to address though

If only he could have just accepted that trade 2 TDL's ago

Won't hurt the Rangers case in trading him that he makes less than his cap hit on the last two years of his deal. $17M cap hit but only $12.5M in actual salary. Someone should take a flyer on him.
If the money is right, I could see a Hayes reunion if they miss on Panarin. I would go $6/4 or 5. Then you get a boat load of capital when the dmen split and make your splash then.

Yeah, I am not even saying that Hank is done. I think he could have a couple of really good years left in him in the right circumstances. But, I don't think the Rangers are winning anything in the next two years of his contract, and I would like to see these young goalies develop. And hell, anytime you are moving on from an elite goaltender like Hank, you want to make sure that you have at least one in the pipeline. I remember those Mike Dunham, etc. years where the Rangers couldn't find another decent goalkeeper, and I want to make sure that they have as many options as possible, to give them better odds of at least one of them hitting.

you know it's like we've been waiting for years for this fabled Russian goalie with the microscopic GAA to finally come over, it was almost like a fairy tale that would never happen

You are right in saying this could be a disaster. Just remember though, Hank now is way better than Weekes or Montoya was. Hank was played right away because you really couldn't justify holding him back over Kevin flippin weekes. There's an interesting comparison in valuing Montoya vs Georgie.
This could play out much worse because the reasons you listed above. I wasn't around then, but this could blow up into Eddie vs John D level bad. Even people like me who think it's time for Hank to go and have felt that way for awhile have Hank jerseys sitting in my closet. The only way it doesn't is if somehow Hank retired and I think with his level of compete, there is a 0% chance of that happening.
