you know what would be perfect? Karlsson at Subban's remaining contract, 3 years 9 mil a year
best of both worlds
I just don't want Karlsson for 7 years at 11 mil a year - jimbro83
I think we all agree that everyone should be all in on Karlsson if that is what he demands are. At a 3 yr contact, I'd pay him 15 million. I just don't want those last couple seasons. |

I think keeping Kreider is part of fallback plan if we don't get Panarin. If Panarin signs, Kreider goes... |

I mean sure, if you want a low skilled captain like Callahan. Fast is totally fine with an A. He's not at the level for the C. |

I feel like if they are willing to pay Karlsson 9mil (He won't take it) that it is splitting hairs not to go to 10-11. If Subban is worth 9mil at his production then Karlsson is worth the extra bit. |

I don't even think its skill. He is very quiet on the ice. I think I saw him yell at a ref once and it was this past year |

the money per year is not really my issue, it's the length of contract
he's gonna require a NMC, which means they'll have to protect him in expansion draft
there's a lot of things I am weary of signing Karlsson to long term big bucks |

He's going to get it. I can see Gorton going after him if we don't land Panarin. |

It's just the term that scares me. Durability isn't 100% about games played, it's also how effective you can be while doing it. While Erik is a much better player than those two combined, we've seen Staal and G become shells of themselves seemingly overnight because they are just hobbled 24/7. By games played, both are still really durable but it doesn't really mean anything. Even a guy like McD has clearly lost a step he will never get back. You just can't keep getting banged up and bounce back to 100%. Erik's teammate Burns is still a Norris level player at his age because his injury history is reasonably clean.
I know you brag about how he is playing on one leg, but that's going to haunt him the rest of his career. |

Yep, Brian Leetch 2.0. Don't see it happening.
Unfortunately we traded our next captain. |

The NHL doesn't get enough credit for instituting the negotiation window. People want to see big-name guys sign quickly and not have to wait around for a week and that does a good job of facilitating that. |

That's TJ
But I get what you are saying. Burns is a bit of an anomaly. Given his age you have to imagine him dropping off too at some point. He is a smaller Chara. It might even appear to happen over night.

We've traded away a bunch of captains. Does that mean Staal is the next? Gotta keep the streak going |

whenever we discuss potentially bringing in Karlsson, people need to stop showing his career stats.
We all know he's had a hall of fame career already
the point is though, those of us that are scared of signing him long term are worried that he'll maintain that level throughout his 30's
I dont need to be reminded he's won two Norris trophies in his 20's |

Fair enough.
I still think he is getting Norris votes until he's about 34-35. |

Unless he gets banged up, I see Burns being like a Gonchar who was good until he wasn't so to speak. Heck, even Boyle was only really mediocre for us because we got him in the twilight of his twilight. Guys like that can just sit back on the point and fire away seemingly until they are 60. Now what happens 5 on 5 will be another story. |
