I never felt Bozak was hated by Leaf fans. And his article as a thank you to the fans made him loved more. - RogerRoeper
Not by many fans outside of here.
On here, many b!tched about him.

Yup.
Like lots of people loved Phaneuf while on the Leafs, and then he was gone and they started calling him Pylon.
and then Soshnikov was the next Gretzky.
and then Starks was the next Hasek.
and then Carter Ashton was going to become a legit 3rd liner.
and then people cheered for Leipsic to become a great forward.
and then Frattin was going to be our new hero..
etc. etc.
people changes their views quickly - people in here were poopting constantly on Bozak last few seasons. |

Complaining doesn't equal hate though
I complained a lot about Kessel having to carry Bozak around like his favourite chew toy, and that Kessel would be so much better if he played with better players. I still appreciated what Bozak did while he was Leaf. |

Not at all. Sure some fans including myself were never pleased with his defensive side of things. Was a bit of a liability in his own end. But I never sensed much hatred towards the guy from the fanbase..

We don't have to fall in love all over again.
He is making $5m/year for the next 3 years and scored 13 goals and had 38 points. Last year he managed 11 goals.
A lot of people seem largely ready to hogtie Kadri and jettison him wherever and he had 16 goals and 44 points with guys like Marleau and Brown as his supporting anchors. Bozak largely played with Thomas and Maroon when he wasn't playing with Schwartz and Steen.
I liked Tyler Bozak from what I could glean about him as a person. We don't miss him as a player. |

well.. I really thought Kerby Reichel was destined to be the LW for Matthews' line.
not sure what's happened to him after Montreal - maybe Dozzer knows..? |

I liked the trade that Burke made to get Dion Phaneuf, because he only gave up spare parts to get him.
I had high hopes that he would do well here, it just didn't work out that way and I turned on him pretty quickly.

We traded him to Calgary for another AHLer.
Shinkaruk I think?
Bottom line, Rychel is a good AHL player but never seems to perform when called upon in the NHL. |

I think Phaneuf would have thrived in a lesser role in Toronto.
He was named Captain quickly and was counted upon to be a #1 defenseman while he should have been a solid top 4 option (back then of course, now he's gotten even slower and just blows). |

To be fair, it's not about the points.. I want Kadri traded because of the back to back suspensions.. A drop off in point production was to be expected with the Tavares signing. |

He's one of those guys that was put in a position he wasn't suited for but some fans blamed him when they should have blamed the organization. |

Burke/Wilson put a lot of pressure on Dion back then, which isn't entirely his fault.. Looking back on it, he was in over his head..
At that time though, I was upset that he couldn't hit the net and that he wasn't the same guy that was nominated for the Calder trophy as a rookie. The salute gate thing, made me dislike him even more. |

I do know it's about the suspension as well. But it makes it easier to want to trade him when he's not producing. If he was as big of an idiot but produced like Marchand, it's significantly harder to want to get rid of him. It's even harder if he managed to not be suspended like Marchand, too.
That being said, with even one decent winger for the year, he should be a 20 goal guy, with some shutdown capability and @ 4.5m that's pretty sweet. That's his upside. We all know his downside.
To keep this in line with the source conversation - I would still rather have Kadri's upside than Bozak at more money. The unanswered question is: how many strikes does he have? A lot of people here feel he's struck out already, so . . . there's no easy answer. |

IMO, he'll likely play with Kapanen, who is a decent winger.
I think he's gonna have to be traded.. Can't have a 3rd line C, making $4.5M when your top 2 centers are paid $11M+.
Also, IMO, he's struck out.. That was his 3rd suspension (twice by the league, once by the team) in less than 4 years. |

My wife works in Guelph, so we'll see the occasional Storm game; I remember looking forward to seeing him and him not really impressing me with the Storm, and really sucking at the Juniors.
I always thought he got by on name recognition. |

the kid's already a bust.
Was considered a "can't miss" prospect up until the trade. Now that he's a Hab, he's a bust. |
