Would making the blue lines thinner help? If they were a half an inch thinner than the puck is, then you'd be able to see the difference on a video replay (in HD), wouldn't you?

They have sensors in the puck and equipment now for some players right? Why not at least try putting them in the skates, pucks, lines and see how they work? You could cut down on the number of refs and get rid of goal reviews.

Hockey fans need to quit their incessant whining.

It was offside.

They reviewed, Determined it was offside. The right call was made.

If the goal had been allowed to stand, there would have been just as much incessant whining.

So just STFU and watch the game. I don't care about your fee-fees.

The correct call was made.

Period.

thats the thing... it is not clear that the right call was made as it is not clear where Landeskog's toe is. His heal is very close to the line and he appears to have his foot turned toward the blueline. I am surprised they overturned the call on the ice with the evidence they had.

Furthermore is it necessary? We are still here talking about whether they made the right call... isn't that the same situation we had before the review process was in place? Video review takes away more than it adds.

it should absolutely be changed to "breaking the plane in mid air"

evrybody knows its easier for a linesman to determine if a skate has crossed the line if the skate is in the middle of the air crossing an imaginary line than if the same skate were on the ice crossing a visible line.

ditto for the replay.... soooooo much easier to determine mid air then on the ice

Can we stop complaining about the rules with this? If he was offsides ACCORDING TO THE RULE IN PLACE then he was offsides! He knows the rules! He didn't pay attention and in the playoffs you have to pay attention to detail or you will get burned for it. Should the rule change? Maybe, but he knew the damn rule. If we changed it to something else, there will ALWAYS be that borderline play where we want to change it again. I love hockey because in this situation it's a game of inches. He was offsides, whether he was in the play or not. It was offsides and it was the right call. I don't like either team just to clarify. It was a very careless and lazy play on his part. In the playoffs that is unacceptable. Lets stop crying about everything and hold these guys accountable to knowing the game and playing hard for every second they're on the ice. The team that does that the most consistently, wins the cup. That's why it is so hard to win it!!

no convincing evidence that he was offside is available. bad decision to overturn the call and the idea of video replay on these calls just messes up good hockey games.

The number of people who don't understand how too many men works is hilarious.

Anyway, the offside rule is fine as it is. I would like to see it be the plane version instead of the contact version, but I get why they don't want that. The change I still want to see is that no review - other than did the puck cross the line (either at all or as a buzzer beater) - can be done in slow motion. If you can't tell if the call on the ice is wrong at full motion, then the call on the ice stands.

Would solve the problem of still needing to be able to correctly glaringly incorrect calls (such as offside where the linesman just loses track of a player or was just totally blocked out while looking down the line, which can happen to anybody), while also not undermining the entire job the officials have to do. This would also cut down on review times, since there'd be none of that frame-by-frame crap to deal with.

Review should be used to solve obviously incorrect things. Not this inane nitpicking of things.

(All that said, whether or not that "should" have been offside, Landescog deserved it for being such a lazyass getting off the ice. How do you stand on the ice at the bench for THREE FULL SECONDS?)

What about trips, holds, slashes etc.? Those are actual penalties that they can't go back and review. It's dumb that the they can go back and review the most minor infraction in the rule book while the other missed calls are just part of the game.
