The uninvolved player rule is an interesting one, so if a forward is caught deep in the offensive zone (say, behind the net), and the puck exits the zone, then quickly re-enters it, resulting in a goal that the deep player did not have a hand in should be a goal? I don't know about that...
How about there is no ability for the coaching staff to review the play prior to challenging the play (AKA: You have the same chance to call offside that the linesman did.)
OR
Since most offside challenges come off the rush (unlike last night), once the puck TOUCHES (not crosses) the blue line, it is considered "in" the zone.
OR
Two blue lines, one further back where the puck has to enter and one closer to the net that the players have to clear in order to be considered "on-side". This would be similar to the "Floating Blue Line" rule in ball hockey.
There's lots of ways to change it, or we can accept the rules, and tighten up the explanations, etc. so fans can deal with why their team came out on the losing end of a challenge... EG: "On the play, the player going to the bench did not make contact with the blue line, therefore, the player was offside. No Goal." Then supply the definitive replay used to make that call...
It's also worth noting that in game 5 of Leafs vs. Bruins, the Bruins goal was offside by about a foot, and video replay completely missed it.
It was offside. Refs got it right. He didnt tag up. He went to the bench, never passed the blue and took his sweet a** time getting off. That was the right call

Get rid of the review. There was never one complaint about offside on goals before. Let the linesman call it according to the spirit of the rule, ie cherry picking. If a guy is technically offside by a micron who cares.
So say the NHL does decide to get rid of reviewing off sides calls and next year a game 7 goal is scored with a guy 3 feet off sides..now what? Its not perfect but at least the right call is being made.

It would be worth the rare mistake in order to not have these lame reviews all the time. They disrupt the flow of the game. Reviews and deciding games by a lameout have to go.
1. make linesmen refs
2. have someone else (video, sidelines) determining offsides)
I'd much rather lose a game because a slightly offsides was missed than because a hit to the head, tripping, etc were missed.
Last night's Sharks/Avs game, I get the offsides seemed silly but I don't care about the goal being affected by that more than the several times McKinnon was blatantly tripped and there wasn't a call. I'm not saying it threw the game, or that the Avs had more or less uncalled infractions, but from a pure frustration point... they need to pay more attention to that and less about a skate being over a line on the other side of the ice.

It is frustrating how a trip, or a hack, or whatever is at the referee's discretion, yet a much less harmful call like offside, puck over glass, etc. is black and white.

Then the linesman should be fired. Really bad missed calls can and do happen but they are rare. Almost all these reviews come down to slow motion replays and that's not what the intent is. I hate how it slow things down and it really sucks the life out of the momentum a goal generates.

i'll say it again just get rid of off sides completely
I'm not even going to get into the play from last night,
Offside should not be reviewable anyway. It's a judgement call by the linesmen during the game. If it takes them several minutes to try and find a freeze frame with a skate 1mm across the line, that goes against what the rule was supposed to be in the first place. Once the linesman makes the original call of it being offside or not, continue the game.
