I am starting to think
1. they want a vet coach
2. they have been turned down 3 or 4 times already

I am preparing for Ruff or Chris Taylor to be behind the sabres bench in the fall

- homiedclown

I’d be ok with Ruff
He’s a good coach, and has adapted his system with us multiple times in the past
Maybe we could get a young assistant for him to groom, and then he could eventually move to Team Pres

There's so many moving pieces here. I feel like convincing Skinner to stay might take bold moves, in addition to a big pay day. I'm not convinced Botterill is the right guy to do either thing. If he doesn't sign, and if big moves aren't made on top of that, might as well go with Taylor as HC and fire both next spring.

That’s plausible

Considering we will have like $40M plus of cap space come 2020-2021 with a 25 yo Eichel, a 20 YO Dahlin, 23 YO Mittelstadt being a stud 2C and a 7OA pick starting his rookie season I think Botts will go from goat to hero real quick even if he isn’t around to see it unfold.
- Pegullaville

But that can get Fd up real quick if we are overpaying UFAs on long term deals

What are these guys talking about???

Is it just me or was that not a check on a player who was battling for possession of the puck and the hit was totally legal. WTF???

Okay so, one of my best friends for a long time is friends with someone who is close with Housley, they went out to lunch within the last couple days, Housley told him that he had 3 coaches call and ask if they would have to answer to Kim and after Phil said what he said they all declined. So apparently we offered 3 coaches. Take it for what it’s worth.

Ristolainen had some interesting things to say ( we made him loose the love )

On the season: "It was the toughest season (I/we) have had. It started well, and we were in playoff pace in mid season, but then we started to slide. The games got tougher and suddenly we were losing the one goal games that we had won earlier. This was my sixth season in Buffalo, and every year it gets more and more disappointing that we can't make the playoffs. I'd love to play in the playoffs. I just watched the Swedish league playoffs on tv and I got chills thinking about how it would feel to play in those games."

On his "post season vacation": "The season was so tough mentally that I didn't want to think about hockey for a while. I went to Manchester and Liverpool to see some football and then played some golf in Spain. I also told the National Team that I wouldn't play in the WC. I just didn't want to play hockey anymore this season."

On the possible trade rumours: "It's obvious that changes have to be made with the team. And if you look at our young roster, there aren't that many players who you would get something in return in a trade. It's more than likely that if a big trade happens, I would be part of that deal. That's realistic, but summer will tell where I'll play next season."

Asked about his own point production: "Points don't really matter. I would trade them for team wins. I've never cared much about point production. You're supposed to score some points when you get to play on the powerplay, anyway."

His trainer on Risto's summer traingin: "We'll focus on explosiveness and speed. We'll try to make sure Risto can play a long healthy career without any need for surgeries etc."

On lifting smaller weights: "I'll use the barbell only for bench press. I won't do any back squats or cleans anymore. My back didn't really like the heavier weights. My training will be similar to last years, which was a good summer training for me. I'll train a lot because that's pretty much what I want to do anyway. I'll hit the ice in Buffalo in July when I'm there for my friends' wedding.

Kim, for the love of god just don’t allow Botterill to do it.

You have no idea who he's interviewing, what trades he's discussing, who he's targeting in the draft, who he plans on offering contracts to, or what time he sh!ts every day.

Who GIVES A (frank) ABOUT "LOOKS"?

If he jumped at the first candidate, you'd cry. He's taking his time deciding, and you're crying.

Newsflash: no one hired Grönborg.

- Powerslave

how did I know you would comment... we'll see. he had the same plan last year and how did that work out?????? he built the softest team known to man..brought in slow players to play a fast system... expected a rookie to replace an Allstar center when he didn't make a move after the other center he acquired quit on the team... you can't make this up....

would not surprise me if this is 100% accurate.... you can see there is so much disfunction in everything the sabres are doing right now. until they fix that it won't matter who the GM or coach is.

I think Ruff would be perfect and stay with the organization after he succeeds or they find the right coach. The man is a consummate professional who has maintained Professional Asst. Coaching duties with a variety of NHL teams, I would believe he's continuing to grow and learn from his experience. He's the same guy that went head to head with horseMouth Laviolette. He should at least be interviewed to assess his passion for the opportunity and his view of the team moving forward.

After the ROR trade and seeing robin succeed you’re probably right buffalo is just a career killer which is sad to say

Next will see Ristolainen in the top 3 for the Norris trophy

Couldn't agree more.

The only way I would trade Risto would be for Market Value on a Defensemen his age, cost controlled, healthy, fast, strong, passionate, etc., You find that Forward and I'll go straight up, but if not , keep your futures. Risto Plays here otherwise. Risto is so miscast here. Our new staff must now reshuffle the deck with a more mature Dahlin and a Second pairing with Risto who will play for the next ten years.

I don't agree with it, don't get me wrong. I think the guy deserves a shot, but people shouldn't act like he's a sure-fire thing. It's a risk, to be sure.

Botts has to get this one right. We demand it, he knows it. He was there, watching Phyllis bumble this every single day. I think he probably knows what that locker room needs.

- Powerslave

Who is? Dave (frank)ing Tippet? The mother(frank)er is a dinosaur. Gronborg said all the right things ie coaching to the team's strengths, not one's view of what "should be". That's the hardest thing to find in coaching, a coach willing to put aside his ego to find a way to win.

So instead, more coaches who have had no success in the NHL will get more jobs, not have any success and be fired inside of 3 years.

With all this talk of success, how did Gronborg do in his last full season as head coach?

That's the point. We know who Tippet is, we don't know who Gronborg is. Hence the NHL is the most risk-averse league in sports.

Were you in favor of Rolston for similar reasons? Both have similar, and questionable resumes. Minimum qualifications and risk aversion are different things.

Thanks for sharing. Obviously third hand info but it fits Homie's narrative to a "T" about Kim being an incredibly hands-on owner and meddling in everything. I wouldn't be surprised if Botts made offers to AV and McLellan and they took a pass because they didn't want the headaches and job insecurity. Now, with Kim's vast waitressing experience that has helped her do an excellent job running an NFL and NHL team, i wonder if she could also coach an NHL team?
