1-3-1 doesn't win, just helps you lose small so you can give the illusion of competitive hockey. |

That was really directed at Lindy as president of hockey ops or anything similar.
Lindy's well qualified as a coach. After the buzz wears off, you really have to question if it's the right move for the organization. I have a hard time believing he's the best option, given where this team is at. He certainly isn't the worst. - Lunaion
I'm of the opinion that the direction of the coaching search and the current state of the team means that we'll be discussing a coach and GM search next April. This all feels somewhat irrelevant to me |

Sabre’s had alll the power and they failed does anyone honestly Believe that the blues were going with bozak as the main center ? The blues would’ve gave us Everything if we stuck to our guns - gerbe75pts
Schenn would have been the #1 center as he was the year before, Bozak would have been the #2. Trading for O'Reilly allowed Schenn to move back to wing.
O'Reilly has had a hell of a year (best player on the team and every bit a #1 center), but he's struggled in the playoffs. Everyone thinks he was injured early in the Jets series when he was boarded twice. He's still playing 20 minutes but something is wrong with him and he's laboring.

Carolina and San Jose were top 5 in Shot attempts and expected goals for, both offensive metrics.
Carolina's D isn't a traditional shut down core, they're just really, really good in all 3 zones.
Edit: Boston was 10th in SA, STL, 9th in XGF. My point being none of these teams "1-3-1" there way to the final four. They're all deep and their overall expected goals has all 4 of them ranked in the top 6. - Sabresfan-365
Yes but chances that go in the net are what are important and Dallas, St.Louis, and Boston were 1-3 in GA in the Regular Season. I’m not saying they ran a 1-3-1, but they play well defensively and get good goaltending.
People get so hung up on chances we might as well just shoot the puck from Centre ice so our analytics look good. The teams with the most high danger chances and goals are what interest me. The teams with the least high danger shots against and goals against are what interest me.
In Game 7 the Blues outattempted the Stars 99-24 and were outshooting them 56-26 at one point yet Dallas led them in scoring chances 12-11. Figure that one out. |

This would give you an astronomically low XGF, on account of shooting the puck from centre ice has a success rate of basically nothing (unless you're reinhart).
I don't know why you are citing one game out of like 100 to make that point but fwiw im pretty sure the Blues went on to win that game 7. |

Karlsson and Craig Anderson got them to the ECF. Scarface was just there. Just like Paul Maclean some years ago was supposedly a coaching genius. |

They've finally broken me and I no longer care if they win. I'm to the point where I'm just glad we have a professional hockey team in this city. If they can at least compete, I'm ok with that. Wins ? That's a bonus.
Way to go Sabres. Look what you've done to me.

Yes and they gave up one goal in the process. Tampa blitzed the entire league and lost in the first round. Toronto had Probbaly the 2nd best offensive core and lost to a better defensive team in the Bruins. Carolina plays a very good team game with unselfish players who play all three zones. We need a coach who will come in and implement sound defensive structure because very soon we will have enough high impact forwards that we don’t have to run and gun for 60 minutes. |

As a general rule, If you're getting a lot of chances and shot attempts, it means the other team doesn't have the puck, which is a solid way to keep a team from scoring.
I agree in general they need to up their game defensively, because neither extreme really works. All four remaining teams have good balance, my point was more against the 1-3-1 specifically. This is a step away from balance, not towards it. |

My point in its entirety is to not go after one. Most of them suck. Hire a guy with forward thinking tactics and give him a team he can actually win with.

Systems are fine and all, but we have really bad defensive players. Forwards and Defenders. That can't just be swept under the rug.

little short sighted don't ya think? I'm sure there are decent candidates out there outside of Gronborg and Keefe. Let's remember that the Sabres were not the only team to not offer him a HC position. |
