I think that's a pretty clear win for us even if Kreider doesn't resign. Getting a middle-6 winger for a 12 spot bump is still solid value, so adding a year of a quality top-6 winger does us plenty of good, too. He and Nuge could form the basis for a strong 2nd line. Add a couple of my usual trades and:
Draisaitl- McDavid- Kassian*
Kreider- Nuge- Zucker
Vesey- JEE- Brown
Gambo- Khaira- ____
* denotes temporary to see if they still have chemistry
Marody, Russell, Currie and a UFA or PTO fighting for that last spot. That's a damn solid looking forward group. - MaximumBone

I have no issues with Kass playing on the top line....unlike Lucic he was able to produce AND look after McDavid if the need arises.....the second line would give Nuge exactly what he had been asking for....hell it might even give us a 2nd PP unit and cut back on the top lines minute which is a win also

The more and more I look into Bouchard's numbers and game, the more I feel pretty damn good about him and what he'll do for us in the long run.
Not to mention there is also Samukorov.
Makes me feel pretty secure about the future of our defense.
Y3+
Klefbom-Larsson
Nurse-Bouchard
Jones-Samorukov or Bear or Bennings
There are a lot of if's and things need to go right in terms of development, but if something like that becomes a reality... |

I have no doubt that Manson will get Sammy and Bouch ready for the NHL....his body of work so far is impressive.....maybe the looming 21 expansion draft will also factor into things as far as the blueline goes as well

Neither do I.
The thing with Kass is his consistency. If he brings his best to every game, he has what it takes to be a top 6 winger. It's so frustrating to watch him play at times knowing he can play better. |

That’s always been my issue with Kass but based off of the end of the season I certainly give him the chance....20 goals if he plays with those 2 all year

Hypothetically, if we have to choose between resigning/extending RNH or Larsson due to cap reasons and/or roster allocation, and trading the other, who would it be?
I guess that would pertain to multiple factors, but I'd honestly have to say resign RNH and trade Larsson. Burn me for my blasphemy.
By then, dependent on defense develop, Bouchard, Jones, and Samorukov will be ready. Not to mention RNH is younger. But then again, I guess this is a mere hypothetical. |

Hopefully, that would be the case. He has the tools to do well in a top 6 role, it's just a matter of using them consistently. May this be the case next year. |

If Holland can shed cap then the money won’t be a big issue....it’s not like Nuge is gonna get 10 mil + or Larsson is getting 8 mil +....also Nurse will need to be resigned during that time period as well.....the Oilers will end up doing the 7-3-1 as far as protection goes....so the real question is if Jones, Bouch and Sammy get 70+ games in before that draft who do you protect? |

Unless they plan on splitting Connor and Leon up I would be surprised to see him traded |

Nuge is probably gonna want 7.5 or 8.
Larsson will want something around 5 or 6.
Nurse will want 5-6 as well. He could also ask for 7 if he keeps trending upward at the rate he has.
It's insane looking back and realizing Klefbom is signed to 4.167m for the long term. What a (frank)ing steal.
And that's a good question. I think out of those three, Bouchard may be the only one to pass that mark. |

I'd like to see him stay... but he might not want to stay if the Oilers continue to poop the bed. |

I’m also keeping injuries in mind.....I don’t really trust Klef or Sekera to play full seasons which means call ups will happen and if Holland wants to compete in 19/20 as he says it’s not Keegan Lowe getting the call .....next year is a big one for Larsson....if he rebounds then yes I can see it happening but if he keeps dropping then the decision becomes obvious

He won’t stay if things keep going the way they have been....he has endured this longer then anyone on that roster I think

Bouchard is exempt because he’ll have only played 2 seasons pro. Just like Nurse was exempt in 2017 with 115 NHL games played. |

So you can take Bouch and Sammy off the list then....still will be interested come that time for our blueline...especially if additions are made

Yeah, there is that.
Next year definitely will be a tell-tale sign of what to expect from Larsson n the long run. Hopefully, nothing but good things. |

Perhaps it may be best after all to just leave our defense as it is, especially if additions may lead to what could be avoidable. |
