Yes and the Leafs also had one of the worst PK’s in playoff history this year, so maybe he shouldn’t see PK time or they need to fire an assistant coach. I love Marner, I think he was the Leafs best player this year, but even his performance this year doesn’t change the way I feel about having size in the playoffs. Marner might be the exception to the rule and lumped in with P.Kane. What did Johnny Hockey do this year ? What about Arvidsson ? Tyler Johnson or Brayden Point ? Marner had 4 points in 7 games but what was Mackinnon’s excuse ? What’s Logan Couture’s excuse ? Sebastian Aho or Teuvo Teravainen ?

Not to sound Richardish, but did you know that Pittsburgh and Chicago were two of the smallest teams in hockey when they won their cups?

Also, maybe the best two way forward of the last twenty years was a 5’10 Datsyuk

Toews, Hossa, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, Byfuglien, Ladd, Saad, Sharp ? Kane and Keith were small but yea I’ll take two top 100 NHL players of all time no matter their size.

Pittsburgh was small but guys like Malkin, J.Staal (first cup run), Dupuis and Kunitz were also tough as nails. I don’t mind having a a guy under 5’10 if he plays bigger then his size. Tying it back to my original point, I see Cole Caufield as a guy who produces in the regular season and gets you too the dance, however when things get physical how does a guy like that handle it ? I guess time will tell. I personally think Boldy can be an elite winger in this league.

Idc about years past. Tavares scored in Game 7 and that was his first goal since an empty netter in Game 1. That whole line was non-existent for most of the series. Marner has been fantastic but the Bruins shut him down this year when his line was the one that got Bergeron’s assignment. However Bergeron is Probably the most unappreciated super star this league has ever seen.

I remember when me and jcrag went at it About Bergeron not being a lock for the HOF

I get your point but I think it should be as simple as can they play or not.

Datsyuk is one of the best two way players of all time and affected the game without being physical. Zetterberg (see Datsyuk description). Lidstrom was a generational d-man. They also had guys like Holmstrom who took the beatings in front of the net. Daniel Cleary, Abdelkader, Probbaly more that I can’t think of off the top of my head.

If he doesn’t win the Selke this year while being the best defensive forward while also being on a 95 point pace it’s a shame.

It’s lunacy Crosby wasn’t a candidate

It has to be ROR so this place is more negative than it already is

Maybe “Kim” should hold up the Award So she can get blamed for that too

If I had to pick one player in the entire league to be a 1C for a playoff game it would be him. Bergeron could very well be the best player in the world.

He was a shoe in to be a candidate despite not being top 5 deserving.

The writers who vote on that all criticized trading him so of course they’re making sure he looks good.

I hope he wins the cup/Conn Smythe and Selke personally. Would be must read material here

HOF talent. There are definitely smaller players who have won and performed well in the playoffs but they are more often then not elite players of their decade. Players with similar skill sets I take the bigger player all day. To me Boldy and Caufield are in the same ball park.

no no no special teams is all about luck, apparently.

It is quality of competition that doesn't matter much. Or so I have been told.

general question #2:

If gronborg was never a head coach above teir III junior A level, what makes someone believe he'd be a better coach than Housley, who never coached above high-school level?

- Michael Pachla

Glad people are starting to take note of this. I think a lot of people are making the natural assumption that he's coached a pro league. Swiss league is a good move for him. Succeed there are he becomes a viable option.

No pro experience. He is looking for his first Big league job. I was not sold on him breaking the ice here. He needs to start as an assistant in a good program in the NHL first

Teams are starting to hire HCs with zero pro experience. We're just not one of them. I would almost guarantee that if Grönborg came from a college instead of Sweden, he'd have gotten an interview. It's the nature of the risk-adverse NHL. If this coaching search ends with Jacques Martin getting hired because they want experience, it'll be a Lindy Ruff capital "J-O-K-E"

Dave Hakstol had zero pro experience before being hired in Philly. Quinn from the rangers was a Colorado assistant for 1 year 6 years ago and is now the HC of the Rangers. Pro experience isn't as much of a requirement as it used to be

pen connection

"We felt that with the young kids, chris is best suited for the job moving forward. While talking to several potential options we just believe in Chris enough there is no reason to continue the search."
