Benn is a star and his value is unquestionable
- onesmallleap

Jamie Benn is 30 years old this July. Unless we're getting him for free or relatively little assets without much term then it's a pass for me.

Edit: I just saw he has another 6 years on his contract.

Assuming we go deep in the playoffs, he'll be nearly 36 at the end of that deal. That's 2-3 years more than I want at that cap hit, even before you factor in a rising cap.

I don't think his style of play will portend to aging well.

Too few forwards play at a high level past 30 unlike D. Iā€™m with you. šŸ‘

Button's revised top 15 picks.
Podkolzin drops out of top 10 and Caufield might be the most surprising rank on there @ 5.

It's so much harder to close that gap as you age, your forecheck becomes less imposing.

As much as we need more skilled skating RHD idk if 10oa is advisable. 2nd round is better imo

Picking D later in the draft makes more sense them being so hard to project. Other than the obvious types like a Heiskanen

seems like over the past 6-8 drafts just as many first round d have panned out as forwards. You're going to get duds sometimes, I'm all for BPA though and JB will pick the right player imo.

Fill the needs.

Outside of the top 5 don't worry about BPA.

Counterpoint. Canucks have needs all over and "BPA" should be factored in every single pick as that player in any position could potentially fill a hole in the not so distant future. If the Canucks had little needs and the draft was deep and they felt a specific player could fill a hole and play immediately, I get the "draft specific need and position" but we arent close yet.

The 9th best forward might be better than the 2nd best d-man.

Not speaking specifically about this draft, I honestly have no idea who the 10th BPA is, or will be, just speaking generally. If it happens to be a Dman, then it's best to take him.

If you are going to be pissed if Canucks sign Myers and Gardiner long term then you better hope the team drafts a Dman that will be ready in two years

There are other rounds beyond the 1st. Draft 4 dmen after the 1st.

Easier to find 4 forwards in later rounds. If we were drafting top 5 I would be all in for it.

I see very little value in some of these forwards that some in here get boners for,but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I really laugh when I see Cozens and Dach in the top 10. Some team are going to be getting hurt feelings in a few years when they watch them develop .

Cam York Seider and Broberg would would all give us a great back end for years in about another two years. I honestly can't figure out why people go nuts over Krebbs and Newhook but like I said everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Usually each year there are about 6 impact forwards that make the NHL from the first round but I am sure we will grab one with the 9 th choice.
