I was a big Ulf fan but losing Zubov was inexcusable. - JRR1285
Then the Pens traded him away a year later in a much worse trade. Somehow the Stars were the only ones who valued what they had. |

He was good for everyone. Guy was maybe not a Norris favorite, but put Norris esque numbers pretty much his entire career. |
|
|

you mocking Karlsson's abilities and making him out to be "another Shattenkirk" are just as bad as the guy's who say "well take away his two Norris trophies" when you express concern about his ability to stay healthy as he gets into his 30's.
Not everything is so extreme, there is some black and white on this issue
the fact is that Erik Karlsson is a hell of a hockey player, first ballot hall of famer.
the problem with giving him 11 million a year isn't that he isn't good enough to get it, it's that in a cap world, if you are giving one player around 8% of your cap and he keeps getting injured and missing 30+ games a year you are (frank)ed. - jimbro83
Karlsson’s goals since 2010
2010- 13
2011- 19
2012- 6 (in 17 games)
2013- 20
2014- 21
2015- 16
2016- 17
2017- 9
2018- 3
I’d say that’s a problem, on top of the fact he’s terrible in his own end. |

The other night in a playoff game he was on for all 4 goals against. He gets the majority of his starts in the offensive zone and on the PP. That definitely helps his numbers, 5 on 5 he’s a train wreck. |

Yeah his goals have fallen off but you are not going to convince anyone that Karlsson is bad. He just isn't.
He has 13 assists in 16 PO games this year and is supposedly hurt.
Trust me, I am wary of the contract too but Karlsson is simply not bad. |

Ducks announced today that Ryan Kesler had undergone successful hip surgery but will be "unlikely" to play next season. Ouch! Still has 3 years left on his contract too. |

I’m not saying he’s bad. Never have. What I’ve said is he will be 30 at the end of his 1st year of a new contract and could argue his injuries have already started to catch up to him. |

LTIR is still a hell of a drug though. His contract hurts you in the offseason, but during the season they'd still get the full relief. |

I think most of us on the don't sign Karlsson bandwagon agree with you, it's just you've kind of taken an extreme view of this
BTW, your concerns about his drop in offensive production isn't unfounded. He's still at worst a 40-50 pt player in a couple seasons though. |

Say anything you want about certain games or plays or whatever, did you see the tape to tape pass to Meier in game 7 (2nd goal) and gwg to Barclay Goodrow. He literally won a series with a gorgeous feed. Say the contract will be bad that’s fine, but pretty please with sugar on top don’t tell me about a certain play in a game because I just proved he’s money when it counts the most.
His 5 on 5 partner is Brendan Dillon, he makes Shattenkirk look like Scott Stevens |

You certainly could.
I was just under the impression that you felt he was bad with how you are posting. Is he worth what some estimate he will fetch at FA? Probably not, at least not for the Rangers right now. Is he worth talking to? Absolutely.
What amount and term would you be willing to give to him?
I don't think we are seeing the decline of Kalrsson, YET. I could be wrong for sure but I think we will still see some impressive seasons from him. |

Still very good but not 11mil per good.
Maybe the salary figure(s) we are seeing are not accurate. He is a defenseman after all, not the coveted Center everyone is after. |

His 5 on 5 partner for his entire career must’ve been bad then bc he’s always been bad 5 on 5. |

I play the black once per year. It is grueling! I’m usually physically done by 13. You absolutely need a caddy. |

Maybe people look at Brett Burns as a comparable. He carries an 8mil cap hit. He is a lot older, only knock against him. He is bigger and has been more durable. Is Erik Karlsson really going to get as much as they are saying? Is anyone going to go for that term/money. Or is someone going to get a what might end up being a "deal" on an incredible player. How many teams will actually be vying for his services? How many of those teams will realistically be able to swing it?
Can't wait to see. |

I would say pre 2014 or so, he was passable defensively. You are right though, he is not good at all 5 on 5 right now. |

He will get that because every new deal has to trump the last big deal. He will for sure pass Doughty.
The new CBA will have something to say about that, but I don't think a 20 mil AAV is that far away. I think we might be 2-3 years max away from 15 |

That in part might have something to do with his partner(s)? Maybe with the right lefty we could see a return to form. Someone who isn't a complete liability playing with someone else who is a liability. |

What made Brian Leetch great was his offensive abilities, not his Defense. He’s probably the greatest Ranger dman ever. But defense is the only thing that matters I guess |
