The only argument I could make with the last one is that this time the players needed to take a stand. The players did give up a bit, but we can see that Fehr really set them up nicely in the present.
Honestly, they should just extend this one with just a few minor tweaks. There are still some teams losing money, but that's going to happen in pretty much any situation. - 2sticks1puck
I hope they do so. It seems like a good foundation. Build on it, don't rip it down and reinvent the wheel. Just amend it and keeping playing. |

A dream 6 for me would be (2-3 yrs)
Miller - Karlsson
Skjei- Fox
Hajek/Lindgren - AD/Nils - Slimtj100
At that point, they really should trade 1-2 of those guys to get another stud back there. |

I actually won’t even care about that when he has 70/80 assists every year - Slimtj100
So he’s going to set a career high at 30+? |

He might, Burns just did at 34. I'd argue Karlsson is more talented too. |

Well if the kids are what we expect then yea. He didn’t have that kind of talent in Ottawa
The only knock right now is his health, nothing else should concern you. Youre making him out to be Shattenkirk and you look foolish |
|

I think if they can get someone positionally sound that speed would be less of a factor, think Girardi. Skjei could also be that guy I believe. Hajek looks good too.
Skjei - EK
Hajek - Shattenkirk/ADA
Staal - Fox
Swap Fox and ADA/Kirk as needed. Give Staal a break sometimes with Smith. Keep Smith playing on forward or shoot one of Shattenkirk, Staal or Smith into the Sun (or ship em out if at all possible). Trade ADA(or Kirk)+Georgiev for other needs. - JRR1285
With EK Shattenkirk and Staal on all 3 of our pairs we should be good for about 5 goals against on a nightly basis. |

Lindgren has already played as a partner with Fox in the past ( they made a solid pairing too ). I think they will be tried together at beginning of camp. |

Hopefully 6 goals for.
Staal playing protected third pair shouldn't be the worst thing. Shattenkirk has to rebound or leave town. EK is not as bad as you think. |

That would be really cool.
Really makes some of the guys being stuck here sting even more. |

Remember when every single person on here told me I was exaggerating when it came to Shattenkirk? His health, his age and his defensive play concern me. All 3 of those are valid arguements. We don’t have 5 defensive stalewarts back there to cover up his mistakes, we have 3 guys (Lindgren Hajek Fox) that haven’t even played a full season, Staal, Shattenkirk who’s a train wreck, ADA who I think is our best D man at the moment, and Skjei who hasn’t shown on a consistent basis he can be a top 4 guy. Add a guy into that mix who is horrible 5 on 5 and we’re in for a miserable season. |

One could argue that you don’t even play the other two. Salaries suggest you have to, but I could see one sitting on a nightly basis
I’m basically giving up 2 the next two years as far as winning, dealing with growing pains and losses and such so it really doesn’t matter who plays on D. But EK is FA now and I can’t do anything about that part |

He is not. Plus nobody (here) is even remotely as good as he is on the offensive side. |

Well there is another scenario, don't sign him. I think there are serious pros and cons either way. If he is definitely looking at Doughty money and it is Panarin or Karlsson I am going Panarin unless he is snatched up first. |

I agree on Staal being on the 3rd pair wont be terrible but we NEED to find a way to get rid of Shattenkirk

I want both lol. I agree tho, Panarin over EK if it’s only one of them. But I’m in the camp that Panarin isn’t a sure thing |

We agree there. BUT, I will be pulling for him if he is still here. I truly believe we are looking at a rebound season from him if he is here. Then maybe you move him at the deadline. Even if they are in a PO position. Unless he is playing out of his mind, then you just ride him. |

during the negotiating period from June 28th to July 1st, they are permitted to talk to RFA's too (like Marner, Point, etc)
It's possible they find out during this period they aren't going to get Panarin and start feeling out offer sheets

Me too. But if EK is favoring the Rangers and they need to give him 11+ per year against the cap that is going to give me some (a lot) of pause. If the cap were over 100mil I'd be like:

But the offer sheet path is dead right? Since they are missing their own 2nd rounder. Or did I miss something about that (honestly asking). |
